Am I alone in not wanting Johnson to be sacked too soon? Don’t get me wrong, I detest the man and the con trick he has played on the country about being this “jovial, nice, cheeky chappy” character, he has used to cover up the truth that he is actually more likely a narcissist and sociopath, but looking at the bigger picture the earlier he is replaced, the longer the party has to rewrite history in the build up to the next general election. At the moment, there are plenty of Tory and swing voters saying that they won’t vote for them again, but history shows that the people of this country (mainly England) have short memories and are likely to fall for the propaganda that will be pushed in the usual media outlets, proclaiming that they have learned their lesson and have changed.
The ridiculousness of our system is that reverse those Labour and conservative percentages and the conservatives get a substantial majority But under the figures above Labour falls well short of one . Madness
You have a point but if this isn’t enough then surely he truly is Teflon ? Unless they just decide he is done based on this but pull the trigger later
BBC website says it is to do with Omicron, so if you are getting your hopes up for him to give notice of resignation, you might be disappointed. Experts, this morning, in the media were suggesting that if it isn’t slowed, there could be 75000 deaths in 5 months.
Had mine a few weeks ago but have messaged my sons to remind them to get theirs done, both being 40+.
I feel that Johnson will be around for some time to come. GE still three years away so too early for a replacement. Whoever it is, it won't change the substance coming out of the present Government but will perhaps put an end to the clownish elements of the present cabinet. A new Tory leader would also herald the end for Raab, Mogg, the Education Secretary, Snapps, and the Cuture Secretary!!!
Why? They’ll all be a schmoozing up to whoever gets in so they can keep their job! God save us - they’re all as bad as each other. I think they should all be in jail - bunch of crooks, the lot of them!
Still don't think JK Rowling is a transphobe? Before defending her, consider several things. Firstly the article is about a hypothetical situation, secondly, while there have been one or two examples of a supposedly transgender woman raping a female, it's thankfully extremely rare, thirdly the tweet is clearly designed to be provocative by referencing 1984 and clearly lacking any kind of nuance, fourthly she is clearly playing on the whole transgender women are just rapists and/or just want to invade women's spaces trope, she's not stupid, she realises what she is doing.. The process for transitioning is very long and there is the risk of being ostracized, are you telling me that people transition so they can more easily rape women, or because they're crap at men's sport so they want to dominate women's sport instead? Seems just a little far fetched. Yes there was one dude who by some amazing coincidence happened to come out as transgender after he were sent to prison and in really obvious cases like that it's good to have some healthy scepticism but honestly don't judge an entire gender identity by the actions of it's worst members, if those members are even genuine and not just claiming to be trans to get a cushtier prison sentence
Well no. She's not saying she hates trans people is she? Or she has a 'phobia' regarding trans people? She's saying she disagrees with the fact that the police, in a hypothetical situation, will record the rape as being committed by a woman if the person suddenly turns round and says "oh, I identify as a woman". To me that's trying to protect what it is to be a woman, and pointing out how absurd that situation is. It's not having a pop at a trans person. The whole point here, surely, is that the person wouldn't even need a gender recognition certificate. The argument being, if you don't even need to have that, then statistics could be horribly skewed, and the whole thing can be abused. To me that's just common sense (and tying oneself into knots to try and be seen as fair, whilst actually being terribly unfair).
I guess my question would be: to what extent does it matter? There is no real benefit, as far as I am aware, to claiming that you identify as a woman after being arrested; the penalty is the same regardless. Is there going to be an organized campaign to rape women, claim a non-cis gender identification and skew the statistics? If not, it's going to have no tangible effect. To take an example: racial identification is largely self-reported. It's entirely possible, for example, for those arrested for sex crimes to all identify as Polynesian, which would skew crime stats. Is there a large public outcry about this possibility? No. Because it's just not a thing, just as this is not a thing. That's where the transphobia comes into play. Causing a major fuss over something that has zero real world impact in order to attempt to erode the societal standing of a group of people that actually exist and are already marginalized.
Dr Debbie Hayton -Teacher, Journalist and a Man who identifies as a Woman, has something to say about this https://www.spectator.co.uk/article...ll-out-police-scotland-s-transgender-nonsense
As I've said, I'm no expert here, but a curious observer that's willing to learn. However, I think the argument is that people self-identifying as a woman can be sentenced to a female prison (for reference, between 2012 and 2018 there were 438 cases of rape recorded as being by a woman. The KEY thing here, is that in British law, rape has to involve penetration *by a penis*. Anything else is classified as sexual assault). The other factor here is the victim (which is and should be a HUGE factor). I can't imagine how it is to be a woman, but I can imagine having a daughter. If she had been raped, and I was told that the perpetrator had been a woman (with a penis), who was being sentenced to a woman's jail, well, frankly, I'd find that pretty difficult to accept. It's the diminishment of women as a thing too, but that's a whole other debate.
