Good news but instead of or in addition to the facility they planned at Hensol? All gone quiet on that.

 

Good point Bluey. I think the difference is that the Llanrumney project is a combined initiative with other agencies and will cater for the wider community, whereas the Hensol project was/is very much a CCFC thing and far more narrow towards the club in its' objectives.

I've had a look at the Vale thingy and the last thing I've found is the approval granted over 2 years ago see below. Doesn't planning approval lapse after 3 years and have to be re-applied for?

Depends on if any works been done.
A friend got planning permission to convert a dilapidated old smithy into a dwelling.
Put a roof on then did nothing for 25+ years.
Not sure if the same applies to green field development.
If they've dug a hole and put some concrete in it they might be sorted.

 

Yep, I get that starting a project is enough to remove the 3 year life of a permission, but it usually means a "meaningful" start - I found this..........

"All planning approvals have an expiry date and this is three years from the date that consent is granted. Work must commence before the expiry date or the permission will run out. The Planning Act states that a ‘material operation’ must have commenced and this can mean a number of things. These include demolishing a current building, starting construction of a new building, trenches or foundations and construction of a road."

Have City done any of that at the Vale?

Anyone remember the little old City training pitch in Cardiff Road, Llandaff?

 

I played there a couple of times for Barclays regional team.

 

Used to pass it on the bus to school daily. It’s now a housing estate.

 

@BluefromBridgend - It's only CCFC Academy that's moving to the new Llanrumney complex. It's currently based at the University of South Wales Sports Park in Pontypridd and felt it needed to move back into Cardiff as part of this joint venture.

The approved Vale Resort project at Hensol is specific to CCFC. It has full detailed approval and is ongoing. Some delay due to the final tendering process and practical matters through the pandemic this past 18 months have been suggested as the only issues.

 

We also played a few times at the ground a few yards west of Ninian Park and another one a few yards, on the right, before Penarth Road. Has been a housing estate for at least 25 years. I think that ground was owned by British Steel.

Played once against the JBB's, Jack Barclays Barstewards, at Ton Pentre. Beat them easily!!!

 

I think that site was actually the old GKN (Guest Keen & Nettlefolds) works.

Didn't play up that way much - more up the Garw and Ogmore Valleys for me back in the day. Early recollections of Lewistown, Wyndham Boys Club, Garw 33 Boy's club, Garw Athletic, Llangeinor and Bettws - all in the Bridgend and District League.

That was of course before I moved up to the South Wales Amateur League.......

Apart from Barclays games - we played in and won a couple of veterans cup competitions covering England and Wales - my football career was limited to Newport and Cardiff and District, the letter with Tongwynlais for 3 seasons. At my peak then.
