This is my biggest fear. I honestly believe our new owners put all their eggs, all their planning, everything into Rafa being appointed our manager. I think they would have given him carte blanche and wouldn't have even considered installing a DOF with him here. Hence the distinct lack of any sort of plan. Rafa ****ed us and himself and Everton the moment he stupidly accepted that role.
I see what your saying there. Yes your probably right about Rafa and him having complete control. The weird thing was he went to Everton in June 21. That was 3/4 months before the takeover happened and 6 months till the jan transfer window. So I don’t think I want to accept that they got blindsided by the speed of the takeover.
Honest opinion - I think they thought they could lure him here regardless. I think the delay in appointing Eddie Howe was down to talks with Rafa too. I honestly think if Jones had getting a couple of results they would have played a long game and waited till now to approach him again.
So basically a plan A and no plan B. That is how it feels. And they don’t seem to make decisions quick. Which they and others can say so they get it right. And others can say it looks like they don’t know what they are doing. We can all look at this through rose tinted glasses. But usually these types of people in charge of multi million pound football clubs owned by multi billion pound countries….. I mean erm. You know, make the big decisions and make them fast. Our PL position and future growth speed hinges on potentially this January transfer window and they are “outsourcing” some of the work? Or doing it themselves. It doesn’t make much sense to me. I will be holding my breath on this to see hoe the January transfer window goes. I’m not going to judge Howe until the end of the season.
Being serious here. As ridiculous as this is going to sound. Say Rafa gets sacked in the next few weeks. What do you think happens? I know what I think will happen, interested to see what you think.
I think nothing happens. I think if they get rid of Howe and hire Rafa in the next few weeks that doesn’t bode well for future managers. I think Rafa may be sacked if they lose the next couple of games. His reputation is taking a hammering. Howe needs a few transfer windows to get his players in so I can’t really judge him yet.
Fair enough, I honestly think they'll bring Rafa in as Joint Manager .......to work alongside Howe till he gets pissed off with the situation.
Two very different styles of play and it would never work. And that’s why anyone asking for Rafa to be a DoF for us would need to consider that aswell. Two completely different styles of play.
It would be like NFL. Offensive coach and defensive coach - Only stipulation I would make is that if we win the cameras focus on Rafa tucking his geps inside his jacket pocket.
Your kidding me EDDIE Howe said “brushing ourselves down in his post match presser” I ****ing kid you not!
As long as "under the pump" is never ever heard coming out of his mouth I'll forgive him for cliches.
Will everyone stop fantasizing about Rafa. Let's just move on. It's never a good idea to take an Ex back. Give Howe a chance. He's inherited an unbalanced squad of mainly crap players. We are where we are because of years of neglect and that's going to take time and likely a relegation to resolve bearing in mind that the sale didn't go through until we were already deep in the sh*t.
I think you need to realise when people are fantasizing - as in wanting, hoping, dreaming someone will come back - and when, like we are, are worried he may come back. The reason I have this niggling feeling is simple. I'll give you a clue as to who brought this entire new ownership to our club through his contacts, His first name starts with an R and his last name starts with a B.
