I make this thread in the hope that my fellow Toon supporters who read this will follow me in taking a moment to sit back and appreciate our clubs position.

After relegation we were laughed at by our 'noisy' neighbours. Pundits, journalists et al were predicting NUFC to 'do a Leeds' as it were, and collapse into a lower league scrap for the foreseeable future. Admittedly at the time, I also couldn't see us bouncing back, no matter how daunting a long stay out of the PL seemed. We had players wanting out, rival fans laughing at our once fine club and a presumably clueless group of idiots running it all. It was safe to say things were looking pretty grim in and around SJP.

However something that is pretty hard to find in football these days happened. After an embarrassing friendly defeat against lower opposition, the players who had not grabbed the first mode of transport out of Newcastle decided that this farce had gone far enough and they were actually going to fight for every soul with black and white blood running through them.

And from that moment, it all changed.

Week after week, problem after problem NUFC continued to throw egg on the face of the critics. After firing straight back into the PL with relative ease, we were back and ready to regain some pride. During our first season back we made a surprising, strong account of ourselves while reaping revenge on some of the louder rivals during our relegation beating villa 6-0, Sunderland 5-1 and Liverpool 3-1 and finishing a respectable 12th. Pride well and truly restored.
The beginning of our second season was once again not without it's trouble. To the joy of Liverpool fans we lost two star players in Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique due to our apparent lack of ambition compared to them. This along with losing big dressing room players in Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton, had the media once again charging around with negative predictions and articles. The outlook for the beginning of the season looked grim, with Enrique and Carroll's cheesy grin slapped all over the back pages in a Liverpool shirt and mark lawrenson predicting a relegation fight.

Alas, we come back to present day with us sitting 4th in the premier league table After 8 games and having played nearly half of our PL opponents with not one of them beating us. The ambitious Liverpool are watching us sit in a champions league spot from below us while forking out wages for our ex players who are missing out on the ride.

So as our team go into November staring at a very tricky moth ahead, I would like us all to cast ours mind's back over the last few seasons, then let out a wide, painfully cheesy grin aimed at all the ex players, pundits and journalists who must be getting pretty worn out of the smell of egg perched on their puzzled little faces whom just did not expect the league to look the way it does this morning.

    HTL!

Hear hear! It's nice to sit back and think about it all really. We could be festering in the far lower leagues right now if we'd done a Leeds, quite amazing to think how brilliantly we bounced back. You can't knock NUFC down!

Aye, when you look back at the last 3 years, the way we have bounced back from a downwards spiral is inspiring.

We didn't do a Leeds because we had a core of decent players who pulled through and because the fat man was made to pay the hefty wage bill ...even though a large part of where we were was due to his incompetence .

By the same argument would you say a large part of where we are now due to his competence?

Thanks for clearing this up, i hadnt realised we have improved vastly over the last couple of years, or that things were looking good for the club at the minute. I was busy being ****ing miserable about our current standing in the league, unbeaten run and quality side, thankfully you've come along and told me to do differently. <doh>

Thankyou for clearing up that what I have said in general is pretty obvious and didn't need explaining to anybody. I just think what we have done over the last 3 years should be celebrated and reminiscing on it would put a smile on some less cynical faces.

the way you've put it annoys me though, like you're telling the reader they're too stupid to have noticed the obvious or know how they should be acting in response, but thankfully you're here to tell them. (same with the article further down telling us to be patient with HBA)

Its the exact reason why I never buy 'The Mag' or any other fanzines. Its a good article, but its telling me nothing I can't work out for myself.
