Not being up to date with motorsport on that side of the pond for quite a few years now, have they had anything similar in any of the series over there where they have engineered excitement at the expense of the sporting side? Not sure it's so much that F1 was bought by Americans as it is about it being bought by a media company.
Blimey... Erm...not off the top of my head. But IndyCar being close to a spec series naturally has the ability to go to the wire, or close. Maybe in NASCAR, I dunno
Last time I was even remotely up to speed with an American series Nigel Mansell was Indycar champion!!
With a bit of time for reflection, it does kinda feel like you're fourteen points up in a pub quiz, then the quizmaster suddenly announces that to keep it fun, the last question is worth fifteen points.
What a year that was.... What a driver. Just wish he could have got the 500 on the way. He'll probably always be the only driver to hold both titles at once. Sorry.... Serious fanboy mode.
An analogy I saw earlier is that it's like being 3-0 up in a football match in 89th minute and then they announce that actually it's 3-3 and the other team have been awarded a penalty.
It's really not. This past season for instance was incredible. Last race, three damn good drivers still in with a shout.... It was brilliant!
Hey... Can I take a moment to be really soppy? And just say a big thank you to everyone who contributes here, both new and old. I love being able to share it with you all, and exchange opinions, and do so without it melting down in to an absolute mess.. This is my safe haven for racing talk, and it means a lot to me.. so thanks folks. You give me an outlet and place to share F1 in a mostly baron landscape when it comes to F1 here. Thank you chaps and chapettes. It's been emotional.
not so far as engineering a result on the fly, but they do have a play-off system for the Nascar cup series, so the last race of the season is pretty much a winner take all affair. The driver who has the most points before it goes to the play-offs does win the regular season championship though, so they don't get screwed over that badly.
