I can't stand the dress wearing prick, but I like Verstappen even less and Horner even less than him. You can't make a decision of no overtaking behind safety car, allow the leader to pass the pit lane then change it in time for his main challenger to change his tyres and benefit.
It’s motor racing, they won the constructors championship anyway - which is how the money is divvied up, this just smacks of ****e sportsmanship because a call didn’t go their way today and Max won the race.
As I say, I don't really care who won it, but you can't have a race director make a decision, announce the decision then allow Horner to change his mind when Verstappen had not a pigs chance in Steve Bruce's kitchen of winning, then through made up rules that breach the rules think its going to be plain sailing without a legal challenge. I'd feel the exact same if it was the other way and you can bet the same would have happened had it been the other way. FIA have ****ed this up big time and Michael Massi will be left unemployed I reckon.
I was hoping Max won today because I think it will lead to a cracking season next season (especially adding GR into the mix), and also because I wanted Max to show off his undoubted talent on the track to show that he isn't all about the mistakes. However, what happened today was a joke for the sport. The decision hasn't just cost Lewis or Mercedes, but also cost Max some of his moment, and more importantly cost the sport a lot of it's integrity. It's the equivalent of the FA wanting an exciting finish to a title decider, and then making up rules as the final game progressed to keep getting the score as close as possible for an exciting last few minutes. It's not the teams playing fault, but it would be a joke to a lot of the fans of the game.
Okay I cant stand Hamilton - he's a prick. I really can't stand Verstappen - he's a cheat and a cry baby - and I really really really can't stand Chrisian Horner - he's a **** (Ginger Spice's husband). Verstappen ****ed up his medium tyres yesterday by flat lining them. He had to start on the faster but less durable soft's. He should have been away and clear in the first few laps but he ****ed it up and Hamilton tore away on the mediums. Verstappen pitted and went onto the hards, Hamilton followed suit and continued to increase his lead. A safety car then came out and Verstappen changed his hard tyres for softs and Hamilton was forced (tactically) to stay on the hards. Safety car ends and Hamilton continues to batter away. 5 laps remaining 11 second lead with Verstappen needing to pass 4 lapped cars to get to Hamilton the safety car comes out again. He then says no more racing - Hamilton had won, then changed it to we will get 1 lap of racing but lapped cars will remain on track, then Horner kicks off and he says 1 lap of racing with the 4 lapped cars Hamilton passed to move out the way - regulations state its all lapped cars or no lapped cars. Verstappen has won by a huge monumental **** up by the race director which breaches the rules - allegedly.
If he made the wrong shout, then it’s akin to a referee making a bad call and someone being wronged by it. It doesn’t end in court or with the FA changing the result. I think he made a call that he felt was in the best interests of the sporting event, if that was wrong then that should be his last race, but the result should still stand imo.
I disagree. This isn't the same as a referee misinterpreting what has happened and making a bad call. It would be like the ref deciding that offside didn't apply in the last ten minutes rather than making a mistake about whether or not someone was offside. The sport this season has seen a number of incidents where they have put money and tv ratings above the integrity of the sport. The worst was at Spa, but today was up there because of what was at stake. It's a trend though where they are losing a lot of the nuances of the sport in favour of entertainment.
I don’t agree mate, so we’ll agree to disagree. The worst decision of the season imo, was the one that saw Verstappen end up in hospital but plenty of it is subjective opinion I suppose.
Unfortunate for Hamilton and I understand the protest. Probably not right overall simply because they changed their initial decision, and certain rules weren’t followed. Can’t stand Hamilton, but amazing driver and showed that today. I don’t think anything can change and they’ll just have to get on with it. Don’t like Max (entitled little prick), or Horner. Hard to like many of them Terrible in terms of selling the sport to the neutral, it was like someone going “next goal wins” when your 5-0 up, but 4 of your 5 team members have gone home for their tea. Shame because it was a great season and deserved a better finish. Max was disappointing today, I thought he’d have been quicker.
I know one thing Michael Masi will be lucky to keep his job, had a shocker of a season. Charlie Whiting he is not.
I think they simply need to stop 2 way communication with race director. It should be one way - Masi to the the team bosses, this is the decision - end of. Not allowing the ****s to moan like Fergie and actually change the refs mind.
Fortunately it looks like the result will stand. Reversing the result would have been a disaster for the sport, compounding mistakes already made. They need a complete review of the way races are run from now on though. No more dithering from the race director depending on who was last on the radio. Just apply the rules and be consistent. I didn't agree with some of Charlie Whiting's decisions, but he always owned them and stuck to them.
I absolutely agree: and I’m afraid it’s another case of corruption. I hate Lewis. And I’ve watched it and Lewis was royally shafted. What’s happened is basically corporate corruption of the highest order. For entertainment purposes that was done. Lewis won that fair and square.
This was the shame for me. Red Bull asking for the ruling to be changed, they change it, it looks a bit fixed. But he has been like that all season. Whiting had a way of making sure they knew who was in charge.
I am not a F1 person and I’m honestly thick when it comes to it. But when an event like this happens. When the decision is made to say pause the race they know each and every one of the drivers time differences. Could there be a mechanic whereby they are added somehow. Seems crap that a driver can race like an absolute machine and create a 30 second lead. For then to lose that advantage because a safety car comes on.
Safety cars are part of the sport and tend to balance out over the season. Lewis has benefited from them earlier in the season, as has Max. For me, it was more about their haste to create a situation where the season ended with racing rather than behind a safety car. It's an understandable desire but not consistent with the rules or with precedents this season. If they genuinely wanted to ensure the race ended with open racing they should have just red flagged the race as soon as Latifi crashed and had 3 or 4 laps of racing to complete the race. That was an option available to them under the rules. What took place wasn't.
