Reading bit on sky which bit confused about.

Says that Salah is the 5th highest paid footballer globally. Surely that can’t be right?

Says that was top earner until vvd signed new deal and figured around 300k.

quick Google says that kdb, Ronaldo, de gea, Grealish, sterling, Kante, pogba, Auba are all on more than him and are the top 8 earners in the prem.

So no idea where this info is coming from.

Does show though, if he’s watching those players get over 300k a week, he deserves as much as them in that regard
Wouldn't have thought so.

On your last sentence: it's not as simple as what he deserves in comparison to others is it? Our financial structure has to be taken into account.
We're all going round in circles over this, and obviously fall into separate camps. It's getting us nowhere so we might as well just wait and see.
As I said earlier, whatever decision is made someone will be pissed off.

Lots of things factor into how well a player plays not just their God given talent. I'm thinking about the fans here and how they have bolstered Salah, you can't dismiss their impact on his performances. He is loved here and he responds in kind. He is always focused on the crowd when he comes out and you can see him drinking it all in. It's very important to him. He's already said he would love to finish his playing days with us and I can't see why he would say that if he didn't mean it. Other players I'd maybe not take seriously but Salah is different. I promised myself after Torres left that I wouldn't invest that much emotion into another player and yet here I am <laugh>

Agree that he is connected here. But how connected remains to be seen. He will be extremely wealthy regardless of the contract he signs so you have to ask the question of what is motivating him right now; cash or a real legacy. We will soon see.

This ^ without a doubt. I'd be kidnapping his dog right now if I were FSG.

I really want Salah to stay, but if he doesn't then ok - I'll be disappointed, but I've seen enough great players come and go over the years. Nobody was wetting themselves in anticipation when we bought him and it's not as though he was special since he was a lad in the way most other top players were. Klopp has been the major instrument in him developing into the player he is, and it's come late in the day, relatively speaking.
The next exceptional player is always in the pipeline somewhere, and we won't even know his name yet.
Salah is one of the best players we've had, and he's absolutely on fire atm, but no player is bigger than the club - and the long-term stability of the club is of paramount importance.
Regardless of what any of us think of FSG and their budget, it is what it is - so we have to work within that.
We will offer him whatever we can afford, and if that's not enough then so be it.
Bring on the next one.

Some of us weren't very happy about it [HASHTAG]#chelseareject[/HASHTAG]

Would assume it's not just wages

There is zero way salah is the 5th highest paid player in the world.

Zero.

Only need start to list of names.

Messi
Ronaldo
Neymar
Greizmann
Mbappe.

Some has decided that greizmann no longer exists and mo is on 41million dollars a year. His wages are work 10million quid so wherever the rest is coming from its not from us

Let's not confuse image rights money and football wages here.

The story I see has his wages at 25mil dollars a year and that's way off. 480,000 dollars a week.

Simply not happening now.

Theres a bunch of other players not mentioned
Bale
Modric
Kroos
Hazard
Alaba
Ramos
Donnarumma (who left AC for a much much bigger wage in the summer)
Neymar

And so many more.

Lets be honest Citeh players aren't paid what is claimed, clear 3rd party payments going on at that club

I think you're right. It's the money he gets for adverts and stuff like that all combined into how much he makes a year not just his salary.

Yeah but the article says he gets 25mil a year in wages and 19mil in commerical stuff.

Even if you separate basic wage per week from bonuses and from lfc image rights there is o way it adds to 480k per week as there wouldn't be a discussion here if so.

Course there would. We saw it with Messi and he earns half a million quid a week before even considering his wages!

that’s a different type of legacy tbf but he still needs to decide what he wants
I take your point. I was pointing out that the money he makes goes to radically changing people's lives for the better which is part of the reason, maybe the main reason, why I don't have a problem with giving him an enhanced contract. I know lots of players donate to charities but Salah (and Mané) go above and beyond. The argument is still there, I know, that it's not the club's responsibility to essentially give him the money to build his hospitals but when I see what he's doing with the money he earns, rightly or wrongly, it does influence my view on this.

I get that. He’s a humble human being which is a rarity with football professionals. You cannot dislike him. Fingers crossed we keep him but for all the reasons stated, if we don’t, we don’t and we would have to move on as we have done before.

How.

How is lfc playing him 480k per week?

200k per week is widely reported as his wage and thsts 10mil a year.

Even with the most generous goal.bonus etc it's not getting up past 15mil per year.

We saw.firmino on 50k per goal. 30×50k is only 1.5mil.

Then image rights totalling another 200k per week or 10mil a year?

Theres just no way we are shovelling that much at him.
