    Part of it.

A FEW weeks ago, Newcastle United were showing a top European agent around St James’ Park.

A pretty major deal-maker on the Continent, this particular character has a number of international players on his books – including one highly-rated striker attracting covetous glances from Manchester United and Arsenal.

So no two-bit chancer then. Yet when United officials led him up the stairs to see the stadium in all its glory, he exhaled deeply, whipped out his camera phone and started taking pictures.

If first impressions count, Newcastle’s magnificent arena had done its job.

It is the unseen story of how United have managed to quietly grab the initiative over the Channel, charming key Continental power brokers to get in the mix for top prospects.

I do love the forgotten fact that we nearly fill one of the biggest grounds in Europe on a fortnightly basis, there's plenty of top flight grounds around that look positively League 1 by comparison.

Was going to post this as well, superb read.

Very interesting to see Abeid appears to have overtaken Gosling and Guthrie for Tiote cover during the ACoN. Why wasnt he on the bench ahead of Smith yesterday?

Very very impressive by the club if it's all true. Things seem to be being conducted in the right way now.

''some of their talent spotters had been watching Cabaye since 2006'' <yikes>

Carr and Hughton had been watching Tiote for about 3 or 4 years as well.

Interesting to see the club making the proper effort and moves behind the scenes too.

Another nice aspect of how NUFC aims to thoroughly conduct its transfer dealings are the efforts made to make a new signing's life easier with the relocation not just for the player but of their family too.

I recall in Cabaye's first official club interview where he mentioned NUFC had already short listed a couple of suitable houses for him to choose between after he'd already previously been asked by the club what his ideal house requirements were in a new home for his young family. It was even suggested the club would endeavour to move mountains and 'make things happen' so he could be settled in very quickly too! Considering moving home and working abroad are a BIG deal it may be no surprise why HBA has been such a big influence in recommending the club to his compatriots having been so well supported by NUFC?

This attention to every detail however big or small looks like it makes things work so much better throughout the club and most likely one of the reasons there's so many happy players here that seem to be gelling together so well. Very happy players off as well as on the pitch!

Is it just me who thinks that in the next 2-3 years we could definetly be challenging for the Champions League?

Sorry but I don't really buy into this. That would mean that Hughton and Carr were scouting Tiote for Spurs, and the backroom staff has been repeatedly overhauled since 2006, Beardsley's probably the only one left who was around then.

Carr has been a scout though and will know these players from his City days when scouting

Hughton was watching Tiote for Kevin Keegan a while back when he was at Anderlecht - I remember him saying when he was manager

Sorry, the quote from Hughton was he'd been tracking him from when he arrived, which would have been 2 years as he developed in Holland. How long has Carr been here?

Just under two years. He was at Spurs before that, I think he worked under Hughton when he was caretaker there and that's why Hughton brought him in.

Edit: Just checked Wikipedia and he was at Notts County and Man City before he came here. He was at Spurs with Hughton before that though.

Miles under two years, he only came in the Summer we signed Tiote, which would indicate he was watching him before he came to Newcastle. Wasn't there a reported tipoff from McLaren too?
