In all honesty m8.. have Ferrari ever been able to field two cars and ever have both drivers on equal terms?
to be honest i never saw moss , but i know how highly he is rated by the historians , so i would never dismiss moss purely because he is rated so highly , however fangio did seem to have his number in the same machinery so there is allways a doubt about his ultimate abilty --- as i said i just dont know enough about him to dismiss him willy nilly --
Nor did I... Well before my time mate. I wish I could have seen that era live but then another part of me is glad that I didn't. Thankfully I cut my teeth in the 80's when F1 was a little less deadly.
its what senna done in uncompetitive machinery that set set him apart from all the rest - the historians tend to have longer and more knowledgable memories than we do on here --
Off topic here but Simoncelli in Moto Gp died in the Malaysian GP today. Another sad day for motorsport.
Pretty sure that apart from farrari , every other single team in F1 has the main base of operations here in England, and liny Indy car are usually mostly designed here.
It was politics that ripped Ferrari apart in the early nineties. Prost the catalyst behind it. He had the team manager fired! Ferrari showed for a long time that they could not provide two equal cars to two top drivers. That stayed the same for a long long time. Xig, whilst the on-track action may look clear cut, a read of what went on behind the scenes is a must to understand what happened at Ferrari in 1990, and i don;t mean just reading Mansell's autobiography! There are other accounts of it too.
They were two guys that wanted to win... as many racing drivers do, they do what they have to. Unfortunately, some of them are French! *It's a joke... it's a joke... don't kill me*
i have read a little bit about the 1990 season , in fact i used to read the weekly 1990 autosport from cover to cover several times over and unless i missed something nowhere have i ever heard that mansell had inferiour equipment to prost if that is what we are talking about , -------------------- are we talking about inferiour equipment , because if we are not what other possible excuse can mansell have --
You must have read of the infamous chassis swap at Silverstone that year? Anyway, we have been here before many times on 606 and didn;t reach agreement then, and this is not the point of your article.
i did hear about it , however as much as i liked mansell , alot of what he came out with over the yrs had all the credibility of a dustbin lid , it allways seemed to be everybodys else"s fault except his -- what was his excuse for the other 15 races ?
His personality faults are pretty much accepted by everyone. Thank goodness you can;t see those when looking at his racing memories! But when does a racing driver blame himself for poor performances? Very rarely! As it was, with Prost's chassis he blitzed the Frenchman that weekend. only the gearbox denying him victory that day. I know you also like to point to Patrese outqualifying him in 1991............. BUT, I have tried to steer us back on topic in my last post. Shall we go back to that?
dont get me wrong saint i have nothing against mansell and never had , but lets be realistic he was never an all time great in a million years , he was just a very good driver that lucked into 4 and a bit seasons in a class of the field williams and captured the imagination of the public with his gung ho drives and english bulldog grit - personally i think alesi was as good if not better than mansell but never had the same career breaks nigel had - fair enough about changing the subject , i think mansell has been done to death now ---
Agreed on that one. I loved the guy as a racer but he never had the cutting edge mentality to be a ture great. If he had he would not have allowed Prost and Piquet to get into him so much.

very interesting devil , but end of the day apart from the autosport poll in which 217 F1 drivers from several decades , which because of the people judging is obviously a poll of the highest credibility , exactly what are the credentials of the people or person that created the other lists - i would be surprised if any of them are F1 historians or drivers that have even sat in a single seater racer let alone raced a F1 machine , if this is indeed the case then all the other lists have about as much credibility as a week old kebab --
Quite! Lists of opinion can never alter the fact that ultimately, it's opinion. P.S. My opinion is more valid than anyone's. (… Now, where's that list … … …
