Give an opinion based on a story which has been well covered by the press. Give an opinion on what you think of so-called "travelling folk". Give an opinion on the events of the past few days.
Ok, on my limited knowledge on the subject. I understand that evicting folk from land that they own (and have planning permission for some of the structures on the land) is a difficult process in which a number of other resolutions must have been attempted over a protracted period before proceeding. I understand that the conditions to initiate the eviction were met some time last month. I know the eviction was delayed because the residents explored another legal avenue to prevent it happening. I fully supported them exploring this avenue. Now that this avenue has failed and the eviction process has commenced I think I can understand the continued resistance. I can also understand that they have exhausted the legal process and lost. I know that I just don't know enough to comment more than that. My opinion on travelling folk is that they suffer a lot of prejudice, especially here in Ireland. I try not to be influenced by it and to treat everyone on their merits. I don't know if individuals within the travelling community are more or less liable to commit crime but I'd suggest that their actions are under more scrutiny from the wider community, as is natural for a large and concentrated alien population. It seems to be the last acceptable prejudice. I genuinely don't know any more than that.
Ireland. Second leg in Inverness next week. Is the Jarlath Burns story part of the campaign against the BBC?
The picture you posted above. I don't know the story. Am I Ok to assume you got it from FF and it is part of the anti-BBC campaign?
If they've been living illegally and outside of UK law, then theY deserve to be kicked off. Live in the UK, live by the rules of the UK. Don't know a lot of detail on teh story as not been follwing it on the news because if I did I get all Daily Mail readery about it! £xxmillion to evict pikies
- So you think it's okay for people who choose to live outside normal society's rules to use those very services for their own ends when it suits them? - There are plenty of other prejudices out there: fatism, heightism, gingerism etc. so I'll have to disagree with you there.
why are folk sticking up for these ****s. these dirty ****s have probably robbed every hoose in the area. I fought a gypsy once (i never knew he was a gyspy) he nearly broke my jaw. but to be fair to the lad he shook my hand after it
1) I don't understand the question? Are you asking if only people who conform to social norms should be afforded protection by the law? 2) Maybe I phrased it badly. I understand there are other prejudices, but there isn't a fat, tall, ginger community.
1) No, I'm asking if you think it's okay for people who voluntarily choose not to live by a society's rules should be able to abuse the legal system for their own ends? 2) There are communities of environmentalists who face prejudice on a regular basis.
