Most pension schemes have already had it. I read an article a couple of years ago that investigated the Federal pension schemes of individual US States and it found that as State employees were living longer in retirement most of the schemes were already unworkable. It will be no different with the public sector here. In the UK they realised that the State Pension was going to become unaffordable as there were more claiming for longer and less paying. They started raising the retirement age so that people started claiming later. Because so many older voters are Conservative, they introduced the pension triple lock but as inflation rises this is going to become an unsustainable burden. Most people have probably not looked at their private pensions in the UK and realised how successive governments since Gordon Brown was Chancellor have changed the tax laws so that the tax breaks for pension contributions have been reduced and the amount that can be sheltered from the taxman in a pension has been reduced. At the turn of the millennium you could put £250k a year in a pension and claim tax relief up to 40 per cent but now you can only put in £40k. The lifetime pension allowance dropped to £1m three years ago; and the age that you can draw on a defined contribution pension has risen this year to 57 from 55.
What is difficult about it? In the Western world obesity is almost endemic. If the Americans are forced to get out of their gas guzzlers and walk more than 50 yards then they might get a bit healthier, if they also cut down on the portions that would feed four in Africa. The crazed Leftie in New Zealand is introducing a new law that will raise the smoking age annually to try and stop people from starting smoking. Clearly they have never heard how successful prohibition was in the USA.
Sounds like an ideal time to discourage working age immigrants from coming here and contributing to the economy.
If only so many of them did not seem to be here to continue the lifestyle that they had in their own lands, grooming white girls and expecting to be given housing, transport, food and drink by their hosts. We should have followed Angela Merkel’s example in Germany and just opened the doors. What a success that appears to be. What we need is controlled immigration. Let in the people that will contribute to our society.
No but the new improved superduper booster that comes out in the next few months will be good against the new variant
Im not a whipper snapper now, age takes its toll, see covid deaths for that. For me better safe than sorry
