Two former Toon players on the sofa today. Will be interesting to hear their thoughts.

Didn't think I could like Gary Speed any more than I already did.. but I was wrong! For anybody who missed it he said Newcastle was the best time of his career, that the atmosphere and welcome from the fans is second to none and that he loved living in the city too. Showed some old clips of both of their best goals for us and they discussed our season so far.

I liked it how when asked if Newcastle fans would get carried away, Speed said something like: "They're entitled to! They've had tough times recently and the fans will know that their squad depth isn't great but they should enjoy every minute of it. They should enjoy staying under the radar too, don't worry about what the press say and keep winning."

Gary Speed is a true great of the English game. He never had the skill to set the world alight but you knew you were guaranteed a performance from him every week. And boy could he head a ball!

Commented on the passion of the fans, playing with the legend that is Alan Shearer. They also showed a video of him scoring against Newcastle for Barca when Bramble ****ed up and he scored. He had a good laugh at that <laugh> . Showed his goals for us, remembering the Chelsea one in the FA cup!

I love Gary Speed - hope he gets Wales to the next world cup. Going to be a great manager and is definetly a Newcastle legend imo. Fantasic player and pro - remember when he scored the winner v PSV. Made me cry almost lol as I honestly thought we were going to win the UEFA Cup. Drogba the **** :( lol

I thought Paddy was class when he was here, never played as much because Big Al was the number one next to Bellamy but still scored 13 goals and showed us some unbelievable teckers

A lot of fans slate him, but despite his laziness, he had some of his sublime skills, and scored some important goals. I was gutted when we sold him, he was a legend!

Was just a one year deal though and he probably hated Souness (who doesn't) so thats why he probably left lol. He seemed lazy, but so does Berbatov, Ibrahimovic and they are class - just the way some players are. Wish we had him when he was at his best though - probably one of the top 5 strikers in the world at one time
