He was brilliant PKD, he wrote so much, so many ideas. He wrote a story in the 50's about a future where, everything had to be paid for, you could talk to your appliances and here we are. The guy in the story's credit has run out and the front door won't let him leave, to go to work, so he can't get credit. Lovecraft was a pretty strange dude. I haven't read much of his work.
Sheckley wrote a short story about selling your children's (and grandchildren's) future earnings to have all the tech you want to have right now. You either like the Lovecraft mythos, or you don't. A lot of his writing is mediocre but when it's good it's very good indeed. (As a person he was a racist prick).
