Hardly a surprise at all that you are factually inaccurate. The UK-EU trade deficit for the three months ending August 2021 was £4.2 billion.

In 2020, UK exports to the EU amounted to £251.3 billion (42 per cent of all UK exports). UK imports from the EU amounted to £300.7 billion (50 per cent of all UK imports). So the deficit in 2020 was £49.4 billion. Exports fell by 14 per cent against 2019 and imports fell by 19 per cent against 2019. Since 2006, exports to the EU have fallen from 54 per cent of all trade to just 42 per cent in 2020. Imports from the EU have fallen from 58 per cent in 2002 to 50 per cent in 2020. Our trade with the rest of the world in 2020 resulted in a surplus of £53.7 billion.

In 2020 we ran a deficit of £24 billion with Germany, almost all of which was road vehicle imports, but the value of those imports fell by 24 per cent compared to 2019 because of the pandemic.
