I am already on record as to what the material reasons are for Spurs to be fronting up in this competition, and its treatment at this very moment; W M -------------O Might be interesting to correlate those who go on about the "loser mentality" of the club and supporters etc, with the extent to which they think the ECL is to be treated as a joke ...
From the off, I've had no enthusiasm for this competition and that hasn't changed. Our squad's just not strong enough to rely on the players who aren't in our best XI. The keeper's done nothing to inspire confidence. The defence is brittle...and that's being complimentary. Our back up central midfield is tear inducingly ineffective...and there's no striker, at all. Given our Covid problems, injuries, a suspension, some players' terrible form and attitude, etc., we're in a position where beggars can't be choosers and the team's going to pick itself, more or less. Unless we've got 4 or 5 coming in during the January window, we're not winning this, without endangering our performances elsewhere and overplaying Kane, Son, Skippy, etc. I never want us to lose, but I'm pretty ambivalent as to Thursday night's result. .
And if we do get the desired result, we get to play an extra round of fixtures in February which we wouldn't have if we topped the group Bloody hell this competition is a joke...
Yeah this is another reason why I’m not fussed about going out. 2 extra fixtures at a time of the season where you probably don’t want them. I know the club got to the CL final in 2019 but I still think when it comes to the knock out stages that they will let us down and get knocked out by a half decent but not amazing side like they used to in Europa year after year.
If you recruited an excellent electrician but you used him as a carpenter would you be surprised that he wasn’t very good. I assume that Gio was bought to do what he did very well at Betis but he has hardly been in a position to do that, unlike how they play him for Argentina
Lo Celso is a flop and massively disappointed. He’s always injured and when plays he doesn’t look anything except average. Surprises me that some fans still think that he might come good and that his issues are all down to not being played in the ‘right’ position.
Dan KP is saying our outbreak has worsened and we’ve requested to postpone the Brighton game. Di Marzio has said it’s up to eleven positive results and also says we’ve requested the postponement. Markanday, Scarlett and Clarke front three for tomorrow night, boooooom!
Remember when we sent a bunch of academy kids (including a young Harry Kane) away to PAOK for an EL tie ... < cometh the hour ... > < audere est facere >
I think it’s probably a bit of both. Regardless, it’s time for him to move on. Lamela at least made an impact when he played but Gio looks like he needs a run in the team and if he’s never going to be fit enough to get it, then it’s goodbye from me.
For the year that I watched him at Betis he looked like a very good footballer. I presume that is why we bought him as it would not make much sense to buy a bad footballer
Antonio Conte has confirmed eight Tottenham players and five members of staff have now tested positive for Covid 19.
One other point to bring up, Rennes are having a damn good season in Ligue 1 and are currently sitting in second (eleven points off PSG, but still...) so surely they're not happy at potentially being put at risk At this rate the two teams should reach an entente cordiale and send out their B Squads
We've got to send our B squad. UEFA rules about 13 players. I make it: 25 -3 GKs-8 covid =14. 2 more today or tomorrow and no game?
