I strongly suspect that our time for goading our Friends to the North is just about over. Enough good quality players will be attracted by the money, and they will escape relagation to rebuild in the Summer. Evern if this proves over-optimistic, we have known for decades that Football is all about money, and their owners have rather more of that commodity than anyone else in the Prem. Undoubtedly many NE MPs are caught by what the phenomenon in the USA is called the Republican base. That is an appalling bunch of white racist, automatic weapon carrying voters that you cannot alienate if you want to be elected. Similarly NE MPs, whether red or blue cannot antagonise skunk voters if they want elected. So just like their craven counterparts in the USA, they dare not speak out about the vile (Trump) Saudi owners of the geordie nations football club.
Unfortunately MPs also have no morals and think nothing of absolutely reeking the place out with hypocrisy when they do a complete u-turn just to keep the mags happy. Government, I'm not sure I would want to get off that gravy train either .
What they need is an out of work manager. One steeped in the history of the game, maybe one who's had 1000 or more games in the dugout and knows how to conduct transfers and agent negotiations. If they could find a local lad who fits that criteria, even better.....

You surprise me Gordon. Do you realy imagine that other owners of ALL of the other Clubs are as pure as the Driven Snow? Did Mr Abramovitch make his fortune by having a couple of paper rounds and saving his Kopeks every week. The Ruler of Qatar owns PSG. Qatar is has Sharia Law as the basis of it's legal system. Their track record around the next world Cup has had it's critics. There is a general asumption that the only way a 'nice' person can become a Billionaire is the have a Billionair parent and inherit. As for people turning against N/C because of the connection, I wonder. The Public have short memories it seems. For example The Ruler of Dubai is Britains, perhaps Europe's, leading Racing owner. But he has recieved very little public condemnation about his rather firm control of his family. People don't care, and the Fans of racing want to see his horses run. PSG Fans don't seem unduly concerned about what happens to Indian labourers in qatar. Chelsea Fans are not begging to find out if Mr Abramovitch is treating his workers well. AND, like or not, AND I DON'T, a majority of Sunderland Fans would have been happy had the Saudi money come our way intead of going up the A1.
Personally I have no time at all for Man City, or PSG, as they too are de facto representatives of terrible regimes. There is absolutely no way of avoiding this truth. Qatar and Saudu Arabia are by some distance the worst of them. They are not interested in football, Western culture ( which they openly find abhorrent) , the countries in which they are attempting to embed themselves, or in being " liberalised ". They are, by all the civil standards we all grow up with, barbaric places, where persecution is accepted in law, where murder is sanctioned on a whim, where apartheid is practiced along with racism and extreme religious intolerance. What they are interested in is having lip gloss and make up applied to the head of a hideous gargoyle. No sensible comparison can be made between a backward, borderline evil state, and a billionaire, whatever their individual flaws nay be. And I for one, would never dream of setting foot again in The Sol, had we been kidnapped for the purposes of propaganda by Saudi Arabia.
