Cristian Romero will not play again in 2021 as his injury is "very serious", says Tottenham manager Antonio Conte. The defender, 23, damaged his left hamstring during Argentina's 0-0 draw with Brazil on 16 November and has missed Spurs' last two games. Conte said last week the £42.5m summer signing from Atalanta needed another scan on his injury. "The news is not positive," he said. "I don't know - January, February. But for 2021 he has finished to play." Romero has played 13 games for Spurs in all competitions this season. "Now he is trying to recover, but he needs a long time to recover," Conte added. "It is a pity because he is an important player for us, the injury is very serious. "It will take time before we see him again. We have to check his injury week by week. We have to wait and recover well." pathetic
How so? He’s got a serious muscular injury. It’s ****ing frustrating (even more so with him than Gio because he’s a more impactful player) but I can’t really say it’s anyones fault.
He played in the Copa America this summer, so hasn't had a break in 18 months. If we don't rest Kane soon, I'd expect him to get injured between now and February. Players in all but the richest clubs are significantly overplayed. We have a squad of about 11 players, so are likely to suffer as badly as anyone.
I can say it's his national team's fault for repeatedly picking our players and overplaying them. We need to start telling the national sides to **** off, as they don't respect us right now.
Yup, and Conte’s recent comments about the squad clearly showed that he’s realising that there’s only so many players at Spurs who have the combination of quality and attitude to do the job. So it’s not going to get better until the squad changes. There definitely needs to be more conversations around friendlies and less competitive games, but ultimately the players want to play. Kane wants to smash the England goal scoring record and the South Americans are incredibly passionate about playing for their countries. It’s a difficult discussion. But a compromise definitely needs to be reached, for the sake of the players’ health if nothing else. I don’t think it’s possible to stop them joining up if they want to, though.
Any other season I'd agree with you, but as he has hardly been putting his back into games for us, it seems like he has taken the season so far as a glorified training session!
I still reckon that with no back up, a heavy fixture list and his injury history, December/January will be likely to find him out, but you're right regarding his efforts during Nuno's tenure. I reckon that will improve for Conte.
So the following players and coaches won't be available for a week or two Son Heung-min Lucas Moura Bryan Gil Ben Davies Emerson Royal Cristian Romero Ryan Mason Cristian Stellini
So for Thursday........... Lloris/Gollini Dier Sanchez Rodon Tanganga/Doherty Skipp Ndombele Hojbjerg Sessegnon Bergwin Kane
Ivan Toney was out at the weekend with Covid, so more likely Brentford did it Fingers crossed we haven't ****ed up Norwich
