I’ve seen him play once. And he didn’t stand out in that game for me. But was only once so it’s not really anything to go on. It would feel like a gamble for me. Never played in the PL and hardly setting the championship on fire. Gayle was good in the championship and he can’t get going in the PL for some reason.
You said you don't think statement signings are necessary, I'm saying I think they are. They may well do a bit of both but I don't think any of us would be happy if this was the highlight of the January window. 21 years old and scoring record of 1 in 4. He may well improve over the next few years but on a scale of 1-100 of excitement I'm at "2" with this lad. I'm giving him an extra 1 because it would almost certainly mean Gayle leaving.
Who knows he’s hardly kicked a ball since he signed for manu and he’s done nothing of note whatsoever since signing. There has to be something there mind unless manu wouldn’t have spent 50m on him.
Just watching a player once isn't conclusive proof enough to have a full opinion about him, could just be a bad game. Take the example of Stephane Guivarc'h - we saw him miss a hat trick in the world Cup final and just assumed he'd had a bad game. Nothing could have prepared us for the horrific unbelievable diabolical dogshit that he actually was.
Donny's done feck all, and I imagine he'd just be a total passenger in a team like us where he needs to pull his weight. I'd take him over Hendrick, but I don't see him as any better than Shelvey or Hayden.
Having done a little bit of research he’s had a nasty knee injury so explains why he missed a lot of football recently. Was on Man City’s books but decided to step down to progress his career. So I admire that. He’s well thought of and the son of Kevin Campbell. All action aswell which is good. I might be swayed. But that injury doesn’t bode well.
Oh I know that’s why I literally said that the one time I seen him doesn’t mean anything at all. Im just saying right now I’m not sure a gamble is what we really need. If we where flying and up the top half of the table then we could afford a risky gamble. And he could be brilliant.
Yeah he could be **** but so could any signing. I'm not too focused on names or where they are sitting on the bench at.
Midtable dependable Prem players is what we need right now, Tarkowski, Lingard etc, players who'd actually be bothered, are Prem proven and have some fight in them. Ousmane Dembele, Donny VDB and some unproven kid from Stoke ain't what we need in a relegation scrap. Dembele would be a total Kluivert, 6 month loan up here to sample the nightlife, no effort, and returns back to Barca when we're relegated with no ****s given.
He won’t be going anywhere, def not on loan. We lose mane and Salah in Jan to afcon to him Bobby and jota will be our front 3 for 3 weeks. Need to get more bodies in not lose them
That’s actually an extremely good comparison. Dembele and Kluivert. What I mean is his attitude may be of that nature. He’s undoubtedly a fantastic player but he seems to get them niggly injuries and I always think that a player gets them types of injuries when they don’t properly look after themselves. It’s going to be interesting in January that is for sure.
That’s fair enough. Or we could buy him for 35m and you go and buy Dembele from Barcelona. He’s too good to be sitting on the bench all his career. January is going to hit you guys hard isn’t it.
That's actually a pretty prime age for a defender. We're linked cos he has 200 odd Prem appearances, is a leader, and is vastly experienced in playing his arse off to keep a **** team up. Ie he's what we need rather than Man U's bench warmer, Barca's mega flop and Stoke's unproven kid.
