With the present squad we’re going to struggle. If we can manage to stay up this season without serious investment we’ll go down next. Personally I think we’re going to need to do some fundamental business In the January window to avoid the drop this year, whether that be loans, which I normally hate, or purchases, if we don’t then we’re in trouble. We’ve been awful to watch, especially at home, for several seasons. Now, along with the affects of the pandemic, numbers are starting to fall. We have to become more entertaining soon because if we don’t numbers will fall even more. Which takes me back to Nige. We’ve not been good to watch under his tenure, i guess he’d say that’s down to the squad he inherited, but he has to change that and up till now he’s failed. SL is patient with managers but there is a limit.
I keep reading that we have an awful squad, so, who should go, and who should stay? I'd be interested to see who people think are the issue?
Players that could pass to someone in a red shirt would be a good start. The ability to do it more often than not would be even better, and to do it with a plan of what they are actually looking to achieve would be even better.
I am fed up of making excuses, we are just a poor side below the required standard, drastic action needs to be taken in January or we will suffer relegation.
I'd like to see Palmer go. I've no idea if Wiz's wage table is accurate or not but it's widely rumoured that he is one of the very top earners and we are not seeing value for money. He hardly ever plays and when he does he's inconsistent. I'd be happy for him to just leave. I don't think he's 'awful', but he's an expensive luxury player we could do without. I can't see it happening though - he has a while left on his contract and will probably opt to grind it out. Simpson can also go - He brought nothing to the squad and, again I don't know how accurate Wiz's table is but he must be on SOME wages and £10 an hour is too much for what he gives. He DOES fit the label of 'awful' in my book and he's taking wage money that could be freed up for someone who contributes to the cause. If any of the others are released/sold then they have to be replaced - I don't want another Diedhiou/Pato scenario. I'd be happy to see Wells and Martin replaced - particularly Wells - but I wouldn't get rid of either WITHOUT replacing them. I'd be disappointed if we lost either Bentley, Kalas, Massengo or Semenyo - those players would be difficult to replace.
People are referring to the wages list link I put up and it's accuracy, I have made no claims it's 100%, it's out there on the internet and has been for some time, I would imagine people far more qualified than I am have viewed it and if it was that misleading would have taken the appropriate actions. Just out of interest there is another link for you to view, slightly older and different source, it shows roughly the same disparities in the wages table except what Naaki Wells earns. https://footballleaguefc.com/bristol-city-2019-20-player-wages/
Several points come to mind with that scenario, it would seriously f*** up any plans (if there is one) for the January window and even Holden was given the January window and it took 6 straight defeats including a 6-0 at Watford for his sacking. As I said in a way I hope he does get sacked just to see if the penny finally drops with over our squad or whether more excuses will be invented.
You are digging a deeper hole, that above totally shows how shoddily things were being run and almost certainly proves he was relying on the word of Ashton, which I think most BCFC fans would agree was absolute folly. What are you vainly searching for something does not exist, of course he is going to claim that the buck stops with him, he ultimately pays the bills and makes all of the big decisions. But those decisions over at least a 2 year period were flawed especially the nonsense about a 'strong squad'. He is to blame 100%.
For the record Wiz, I wasn't trying to hold you responsible for the accuracy of that table - I was just referring to it as the one that you posted, so people would know what I was referring to.
Thankyou I never thought you did but the point being raised was correct as to accuracy, others have raised it in a more subtle stance, I was just stating my own direction.
regarding wages, the question I always ask myself is where do they get it from? there is probably a dozen sites out there that "publish" financial concerns or "records" on club expenditure! Players wages, Clubs annual "players" wage bill etc etc. I love keeping the brain ticking over, by looking at "things" in different ways you see a lot of anonomolies. A season or 2 ago I did a comparison, annual players wages was given, I think is pertinent to season before, Some time before that came to my attention was the " players weekly wage " [ different source ] ... by adding up the players still at the club [ think it was top 20? 21? players] it met the total "declared" annual players wages total. so the rest played for free ....lol As wiz said, there is no guarantee of its accuracy, should we sign a player say "Sidknee Toekapp" in January for £5m on a 3 year deal .. unless the club says we spent £5m on him and are paying £20k a week we do not know the truth! however someone on here could say just signed Sidknee, and club has splashed out, and paying him £30k a week [ or any such figure ] and down the line it will get published, amended maybe up a bit or down abit [ these sites dont like publishing same figures as others as thatdoes not make the unique! ] wiz does a great job bringing to our attention daily bulletins, on all aspects of city news ... or items that might link. I appreciate every single one, but on odd occassions have learned to expect the odd comment on his intention etc! but that is what keeps our board ticking over, and long may it continue, its better than the present team/ management set up at present, to have a dig. ps [just a note] some things you can juggle to make them fit, you find a constant to average out findings etc. MY attempt with the afore mentioned comparison I was unable to. SO any player that was "on" £20k+ was reduced to something like £10k and player 40 in list had to be £550k ... rest would be paying to play ...lol
Phew ........I don't know if that was gobbledegook, snipe or a compliment but if my intent is still being questioned or people are not happy with my participation, I have been here a long time and it's understandable, I am happy to relinquish my role, if anyone wants to forward a name please believe me I am more than happy to submit it to our members for their decisions. No hard feelings, I'm very happy and would welcome a new face if it's desired.
you do not need assurances! As I said, our board is better than the present team / management etc just keep on with the items you post/link to ...
Never any question over your integrity, we realise you are posting them for discussion, nobody knows the validity of any such lists.
I hope it doesn’t happen but nothing would surprise me. I really wanted him here, im not yet Nige out, but …..
As I have been saying part of me wants him sacked for 2 selfish reasons. 1. To see who our glorious leader appoints next and 2. When whoever that is fails maybe the penny will finally drop that it's the squad of players that is and always has been the problem.
I think NP is and was the right calibre of manager required for the progression that was needed, just question his playing tactics. No point in replacing him like for like as nothing would change..
