There have been questions asked by the general public after that letter, just why does the UK have it's border in France? The feeling is that people who buy a ferry or train ticket should be allowed to travel to the UK, and let the government there sort its own problem out. This would mean that the gangs would lose their customers. This is now becoming serious as politicians looking towards next years election are saying similar things. MichelBarnier is saying it's time to rescind the Touquet agreement and "let people who wish to claim asylum in the UK go there and do so" He also says it's clear the UK isn't respecting the Brexit deal "which I know very well" on fishing or N Ireland. Mr. Barnier is hoping to be a candidate in the Presidential election.
Things looking bleak for Julian Assange. I wonder what odds Lord Chief Justice Ian Burnett got from the bookies on him being extradited to the US? https://declassifieduk.org/assange-...iend-of-minister-who-orchestrated-his-arrest/
The Cabinet Office has been fined £500,000 for a serious breach of data protection laws. So where will this money come from? Oh it will be from the taxpayers. And once it has been paid, what happens to it? It is paid back into the government bank account. It would be more to the point if Cabinet Office Ministers were personally liable to take responsibility and pay up.
True - whatever ever happened to the principle of impartiality of the judge? It certainly seems to have flown out the window in this case - and it's simply not good enough to take this judge's word that he can be impartial.
Sadly politics seem to have driven the attack on Assange all along... because of what he was exposing..... and of course this Govt fawning to the US...
How the flying f*** does that work? Absolutely had to recuse himself. Bad enough when politicians do this, but for the judiciary to be in tandem reflects the worst of 'merica.
The signs of drug abuse in Westminster have been visible for quite some time now - it's about time something was done about it. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...ower-amid-claims-drug-abuse-is-rife-rsfx6hg9t
My nephew who lives in Watford has a 21 year old daughter who has now caught the coronavirus three times. She is a very fit young lady, who enjoys an active social life. Each time she has been very poorly for about 7 days. She has not needed to go to hospital, but is worried about why she has been able to catch it so often, and what the long term effects might be. For some reason only the first case of her being unwell is counted in government figues.
Cocaine detection wipe tests carried out in a single evening on 12 locations in parliament found evidence of the class A substance in lavatories near the offices of prime minster Boris Johnson and home secretary Priti Patel, as well other washrooms, the paper said. And the newspaper quoted anonymous Westminster sources as claiming that drug use was rife among some staff and MPs. One was quoted as saying: “I have seen an MP openly snorting cocaine at a party. There were journalists present and I warned them that what they were doing was extremely dangerous and they could be exposed but they seemed to get off on the power trip.” Just another example of how some of these MPs believe they live by a different set of rules to the rest of us.
Did I misunderstand what Johnson has just been saying? Work from home if possible, but go to your Christmas parties. Working from home is to keep contact between people to a minimum, which doesn't apply to parties. Remember how the press conferences always had a chart to show what the R number was. Anything above 1 was a problem. Today it is 4.6. Something had to be done.
The responses from different Jokeaments are enjoyably bizzare to see. The UK seems on some mad, slow knee jerkish nonsense approach to me. Here, COVID is lurking about as everywhere else, but México can't be closed down as many people live hand to mouth. There was a suggested "work from home," at the start of the first wave, which many people did. Now it is just "keep your distance, use hand gel, temp checks & wear masks" which nearly all do, there is also reduced capacity in public places, such as restaurants. I am sure there are many, many, many more cases than reported here, as there is no testing as such. Just go to Hospital if you think you have it. Many people don't have access to IMSS, (the Mexican NHS) as they are not registered workers. Here the show must go on, there is no other option for many. At least here, the message has always been the same. Don't get me wrong, México has many problems, with organised crime and corruption at the top of the list. However, I think AMLO (the gaffer) and Morena (his team) have handeled the Pandemic just about as well as they can. The over 60s are getting their booster jab soonish too, well it has started its rollout.
The pandemic has exposed underlying frailties in many countries ranging from distrust in authorities to a lack of social cohesion. Some, at the other end of the political spectrum to me, would add a slavish acceptance of central control and a high level of fatalism. Social media has added another layer of confusion to the situation, too. In NZ we have our share of loony tune conspiracists and I know anti-vaxers but I was surprised to see that the number of eligible people for Covid vaxinations who have had the double vaccination is nearing 90%. It seems to be the poorer areas that have lower rates and I suspect that is because they have felt marginalised for a long time.
Horrible statistic from Germany: Since the outbreak began there have been 550 attacks on vaccination centres and testing centres. These have been either arson, criminal damage, threatening behaviour or physical attack. So much so that some medical staff are demanding extra security staff. There are times when I would be glad to reinstall some of the punishments of the middle ages ! It's time we stopped trying to 'understand' the anti vaccineers because they are not only anti vacc but have tried to disrupt all measures designed to bring this crisis to an end and are one of the big reasons why we are still in this mess - politics can only do so much. I liken these people to someone who would have put on a light during Churchill's blackout in World War 2 - anti social and a danger to all of us, and it is high time they were forced to realize that they are the deviant minority by all of us.
I must say I agree...... Not sure the libertarian approach of Boris has really delivered the right message....
Olivier Véran the French health minister has specified that the majority of patients hospitalized in intensive care units are "mostly unvaccinated" and, concerning vaccinated patients, they are "most often immunocompromised patients or patients suffering from severe chronic diseases, and therefore in whom the vaccination does not have the same protective effect". "France is one of the countries in the world which vaccinates the most in daily booster vaccination, yesterday more than 650,000 French people received a booster injection", adding that it is necessary "to go faster, stronger , It's urgent". In addition, pharmacies "who wish" will now be able to open every Sunday in December and January to vaccinate against Covid-19. It is the aperitif with friends that we will cancel even if it is the end of the year period, these are the company aperitifs, those moments of conviviality, moments of relaxation, where we take off the mask too easily because we feel safe ". According to him, compliance with these measures has already had a "braking effect" that must be "amplified". So Mr. Véran sees a problem with the office get together or party, something that yesterday Johnson was saying should go ahead.
