Yes, it's your fave-rave weekly thread and I know you're itching to know the latest count!!! 81 for half a goal!! See you all next week!!!
Cairney beat the first man with one of his corners today and the entire ground let out an excited "Ooooh"
Did they??? I could hear a pin drop near me in East stand. I think we should ALWAYS play short corners, we've no ball winner in the air at either end and it cost us two goals today !!!
Ha, I can't describe a noise using text but everyone seemed genuinely surprised he beat the first man from a corner. I had to laugh.
I get your point George but we must play short from now on and not knock it back to Hobbs after playing it short so he can punt it long to McLean or Fryatt.
Taking them? Long into the box? We have no height or aerial threat Charles, we need to be a little more investive and play short creative corners/free kicks.
It seems like we should just accept that we aren't going to score with any sort of frequency from direct corners. Maybe have Koren and Brady stood over the ball, try to dribble it in to the box. With Rosenior a little further back (in line with the edge of the area) in case there is no getting through, to whip a ball in.
I won't accept anything! We are missing a trick here that might just be the difference at the end of the season between getting in the play-offs and not. Scoring from corners with a reasonable frequency is not rocket science and it has little to do with height. It has to do with imagination and practice. We don't do enough of either. We have NO VARIATION in our technique whatsoever and in my view is a shamefull wast of opportunity by the management.
Look on the bright side. We might be **** a set pieces, but on the plus side, at least we always score from open play.
Thing is, this corner watch thing started as a bit of a joke, but it's now starting to really piss me off. Yes, we are doing very well, but since when have we ever been able to afford the luxury of sitting back, satisfied that there is nowhere that we should look to improve??? If something doesn't happen to change this, it will come back to bite us in the arse!!! If that happens, guess who will be all over this forum like a rash!! Actually, if I am really bored I might do a comparison with the other teams in the Championship (how sad is that!!)
Just something I noticed from a few of the corners today, we never seem to have a player on the keeper. If we did they wouldn't find it so easy to pluck the ball out of the air and chester/hobbs or whoever would get more chance to attack the ball and hoepfully get that ellusive goal from set pieces.
Or play it short to Brady/Koren sat at the edge of the box for them to curl a shot at the far post, and if anyone redirects it with their head on it's way, fair game.
You remember when we played Stoke in the PL? Myhill getting the ball under pressure from a Stoke attacker could put it out for a throw but they had Delap on the pitch so he turned and put it out for a corner. What's going to happen when opposition managers realise we're **** at set pieces is they're going to instruct their players to commit fouls to create set pieces if we ever look like creating a good chance from open play. Then the opposition defending is going to make Watford look like Barcelona.
