Followed match on espn and I wondered if Ricky was on the pitch. He hardly got a mention but Guly certainly did on this site. Can a player be that bad and stay on the pitch. Thought we were great to get a draw with only 10 men.
It was Boothroyd commentating, he has had an axe to grind with us for 2 years.....It just goes to show how spoilt we have been, performances like that were commonplace before Markus bought us.
Watched it on Sky and the moment I nipped out of the room The Riddler scored, typical, this was a game I had us down to lose, but class prevailed.
wasnt brilliant tonight, guly in particular was absolutey ****e defence looked better when Martin came on, should have scored that header ! fox had a good game, hammond and cork not brilliant but de ridder MUST start in place of guly !
Were you sitting near the presenters gantry/box then? Because you've given Beagrie a whole lot of grief, and yet it was Aidy Boothroyd on commentary.
Let's give credit to Reading, they never let us settle from the start, I agree that Guly needs time on the ball which he never got tonight...SDR has done enough to be considered from the start of the next game.
Yeah, that's the blessing in both this game and the match against Derby: this team fights like mad. It would've been easy to fall apart down 1-0 and with Hammond sent off, but we managed to get a draw and even threatened for a wholly undeserved win.
Well done Reading; great performance and the only team this year to make us look ordinary. Well done Saints; great fight back. Well done Nigel; great interview and how refreshing to hear a manager say how much better the opposition were
Agreed i didn't think reading could keep it up tbh but they did . We played poor until the 80th min and de ridder deserves a start in my opinion. Also isn't it nice to have a manager that admits when we have played poorly etc.
That was a shocking display compared to our last game, we were dominated the entire game. Kelvin Davies saved our arses on too many occasions.. I know it's a bit early to say but our away form is starting to look really shaky. 6/6 wins at home compared to 2/7 wins away is a bit concerning.
It wasn't that bad a game, Readings game plan worked well, they gave us absolutely no space to play our football, we kept plugging away and seldom got a decent bounce of the ball, when we needed it we had the man for the job, De Riddler took his goal very well, it is easy to criticise but we are going to have many more scraps like this before the season is over and if we come up with at least one point, I will settle for that, can't win 'em all.
I think we are being sussed a bit now and the better sides can take points off us. Yes, our away form is not as good as at home, but we are still managing to get draws when we fall behind. Shows character.
You've all said how bad Guly was today, and how luckly we were, so I wont bother getting into all of that and just repeating what has already been said. But I haven't seen Connolly mentioned. I'm not saying for one second that he played badly, so I want to make that clear from the start. But he was just not in the game - completely and utterly non-existent up front by himself. Now I haven't been to an away game this season, so I don't know if he usually finds himself isolated as much he did today, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. There's nothing wrong with going away from home and basically having just the one guy all alone up front, but for it to work they either need to have pace, height or strength (so that the ball sticks, and they can hold onto it, or so that they can worry the defence). Connolly doesn't have these attributes, and Pearce and Gorrks dealt with him with ease. Playing it up to Connolly on his own was only one step away from just giving it straight back to Reading. So my point is if this is indeed a common occurance away from home, then Connolly simply should not be starting away from home. De Ridder, who does have one of those attributes (pace), could be a much better option.
Hold on a cotton-picking minute. Our away form is 2 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses...that's not bad at all. I think we are being a bit tough on the team. The difference today was that we don't seem to have played well, but we still got a point.
