My thoughts on the Wigan game - 3 points is 3 points

In a way I'm sort of happy that we can play **** but still win. Man Utd do it often enough, so why can't we? If our overall performances as a team are ****e, but our quality nicks us a win, i don't care.

We were quite dreadful, but at the end of the day I'm happy.

Marveaux needs to start on the RW, Obertan is a decent player but his final balls are ****. His vision is also **** because there were plenty of times where Tiote and Cabaye were in acres of space and he didn't even see them. Marveaux got an assist after 5 minutes of coming on. He deserves to start now, to at least prove he can do it more often.

I was very impressed with the attendance today. Wigan only brough 150-200 fans at the most and we got 48,123 overall. Good signs!!! We're getting these crowds so early in the season.

Ratings -

Krul - 8 - Fecking fantastic save 10 mins in to deny Moses i think.

Simmo - 5.5 - Very shakey, let Wigan in too many times.

Taylor - 8 - Solid game

Colo - 8.5 - Great game. Some fantastic interceptions, won most in the air, played very well.

Raylor - 7.5 - I was impressed with him today, he was one of our best players in the first half along side Colo. Some great defensive play. Put a lot of pressure on Jonas to track back at times, but overall he was very good.

Obertan - 5.5 - Some good runs, but awful in the last 3rd.

Cabaye - 7 - Quite a quiet game but great goal to get us the 3 points.

Tiote - 7 - He may get some stick for getting caught in possession a lot today, and rightly so, but he was the only player delivering quality balls into the box from the right hand side in the first half, in fact he was the only one putting in any decent deliveries into the box at all in the first half. One of his lesser performances, but he was good in certain aspects.

Jonas - 8 - Very good performance from him today. Tracked back very well, made some great runs and threatened Wigan.

Best - 7.5 - I think he was taken off because of his yellow card, but apart from that i think he was great. Some fantastic skinning of the Wigan defenders, played well upfront.

Ba - 7 - Good performance, unlucky not to score.

HBA - 7 - Quite frustrating this lad at times, but had a good shot on goal, some decent dribbling and helped our attacking play. He just needs more time and game play, but he's doing well.

Marveaux - 7.5 - Very tidy player, and got the assist for Cabaye's goal. He's quite strong for a player only 5ft 6. Great balance, great agility, good player. HE SHOULD BE STARTING NOW!!!

Shola - 5.5 - Meh, not **** but not good.

OVERALL - The performance as a whole was pants mostly, but i was happy to see some of our fringe players doing well.

MOTM - Coloccini. Fantastic in defense.

AND WE NEED TO FORCE COLO TO SIGN THAT 4 YEAR CONTRACT cause once again he was epic!

 

I think people need to give HBA more time and not to expect him to rip defences apart as soon as he returns.

 

Simpson gets a 5, yet Raylor a 7.5 who nearly cost us 2 goals?

I don't think anyone but Cabaye, Krul, Colo and Marv deserved a 7. Obertan a 5. Rest a 6.

Yer simpson did nothing wrong today really. Raylor was exposed a lot. We need a LB and Santon needs to now start at RB. Simpson is ok and he plays out of his skin but if he has a bad game... Its gonna be a bad game. I think pardew did his subs spot on today.

He needs to get the 4-5-1 formation ready for the next 6 games cause they gonna be hard. Ben arfa looks good to a point but he backed out of tackles today (understandably) and he lost the ball a lot!

I don't expect him to rip defences apart just yet...I do expect him to be able to pass the ball successfully and to choose the right option at least 30% of the time...He didn't do that today!

He is clearly a very gifted player, but do you remember the kid at school who could do all the tricks but never passed? That's Ben Arfa at the minute. Its great he is trying to take people on etc. BUT look at Marveaux, got the ball, laid it off, got an assist - Ben Arfa would've looked to take the defender on, possibly lost it and ended up disrupting the flow of positive play!

I like him and he is an exciting player to watch, but I'm not bullshitting myself, he needs to become more of a team player!

thought ben arfa settled and stopped trying to win it on his own/impress as soon as marv came on,i know a lot of us moaned (me included) but this was down to frustration as we can play a hell of a lot better.others have said it we'd have lost this game last season so you've got to be happy with that if not the performance.

There's no ****ing way I'm watching football first. We'll be last on match of the day and we deserve to be.

Another win another 3 points, I'm happy enough with that. No good playing fancy football and getting nothing. A little bit of patience from us and I'm sure the guys will come good for us.
