Playing the majority of the match with 10 men won't have been ideal preparation for this game, either. We may have beaten Leeds, but the first half of that match was equally poor and toothless. Any boost that we may have had from hiring the new manager appears to have gone out the window. Can Conte manage to get 90 minutes out of this lot or will Burnley finish off a low week? Last season was a pretty poor one for the Northern Clarets. They flirted with relegation all season and narrowly avoided it near the end. Beating Fulham with three games left kept them up officially, but they went on to lose the remaining fixtures. That left them in 17th place, albeit 11 points clear of 18th place Fulham. They've got an extremely limited budget, but Dyche won't want a repeat of that this time. The summer saw them bring in Nathan Collins, Maxwel Cornet and some backup players. The Ivorian winger has been a revelation since his move from Lyon, scoring 5 times in 7 games, so far. The rest of the side hasn't been on his level though, as they've only won one game. Victory over Brentford has been part of a decent run of four games unbeaten. Score draws against Southampton, Chelsea and Palace may point to defensive weaknesses to deal with. Our visit to Turf Moor last season was early in the campaign and it was a mediocre performance. We had plenty of the ball, but struggled to create chances, despite the good from of Kane and Son. The hosts' physicality was evident early on and it was about the only notable thing about the first half. A Kane goalline clearance opened the second, before Lamela came on and we got going. His corner was flicked on by Kane to be headed home by Son for the only goal of a fairly dull match: The return at our place was very different, as we ran riot from the first minute. Bale, Kane and Moura made it 3-0 by about the half hour and it wasn't that flattering, either. The visitors didn't seem to have an answer to how we were playing and created almost nothing. Bale scored a second after the break to completely kill it off and it was quite a stroll after that. Son still could've scored another, but was denied by Pope and it ended 4-0: Romero, Lo Celso and Scarlett will still be absent for this one, but we've nothing new yet. Barnes is Burnley's only definite injury absence, though Rodriguez, Vydra and Stephens all face tests. Tarkowski and Westwood will also miss out, due to suspensions for picking up 5 yellows. Lineups for each side's last league game: Spurs: Lloris; Tanganga, Dier, Davies; Royal, Winks, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Moura, Kane, Son. Subs: Gollini, Doherty, Sanchez, Rodon, Sessegnon, Ndombele, Alli, Bergwijn, Gil. League form: WWLLDW. Burnley: Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Brownhill, McNeil; Cornet, Wood. Subs: Hennessey, Bardsley, Collins, Long, Pieters, Cork, Lennon, Vydra, Rodriguez. League form: DLDWDD. Ref: Peter Bankes. VAR: Craig Pawson. TV: Not televised. How would you like to line up for this one? Would you stick with much of the same lineup from the Mura, tinker a little or change it completely? Which system and tactics would you use and what are you expecting Burnley to go with?
Hugo Tanganga, Dier, Davies Emerson, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Reguilon Lucas, Kane, Son No Dele, Doherty, Sanchez and Fatbelly in the squad, please. Have them replaced by the likes of Markanday, White and co. Gracias. There’s even an argument for Markanday and/ or White to start but can’t see Son and/ or Lucas being dropped.
Just a reminder, there's a good chance that 17 year old academy CB will become a Lancastrian Franco Baresi
Tbh they could probably play anyone at CB on Sunday, it’s not like Spurs make any defence work hard these days.
Tanganga only getting a start because it’s either him or Rodon, he was very poor last night. Anyone else yearning for the days of Walker, Toby, Jan and Rose as a well oiled back four
I'd have been fairly happy with a half-decent back four against Mura. Would've been a vast improvement on a fairly shabby back five.
According to Alasdair Gold, that's simply not true as Conte has told Rodon that he's competing with Dier, while Tanganga is competing with Romero It does have to be said that the way our back three is set up does mirror how Conte's back three at Chelsea was set up CB who sprays out the ball - Luiz at Chelsea, Dier (with Rodon as backup) for us CBs who push up - Azpilcueta for Chelsea, Romero or Davies (with Tanganga as backup) for us CB who is more conservative - Cahill for Chelsea, while for us...I'll get back to you on that one The obvious difference is they had the Kante/Matic forcefield that was capable of both switching defence to attack quickly as well as sitting on a 1-0 lead for as long as they liked, while for us Hojbjerg/Skipp continues to be functional as it lacks the dynamism going forward and the solidity sitting back, and that's the area that needs fixing before anything else
A snowy Sunday in Burnley as opposed to a wet and windy Wednesday night in Stoke. Don't look at our bunch of overpaid, under-talented and half-assed twats and see a positive outcome today... Or maybe I'm underestimating the Conte impact?
Doesn’t even look like it’s gonna go ahead. Snow’s coming down thick and they clearly don’t have undersoil heating by the looks of things.
