I'm not arguing that he hasn't got a decent business there now and he's got a CL trophy in the bag too. My point is that has all come about due to the massive wedge he's been able to throw at them. In the early days, it was just throw as much money at the problem and see what sticks. It was crass to watch.

was never the case. It’s been the toy of local man done well, rich business owner, millionaire and now billionaire/investment group.
You want a level playing field?

salary caps same across league, a draft system of the best players, players not allowed to leave on free transfers etc. A max transfer spend per season. That would make a level playing field.

It's not been a level playing field for at least 50 years mate if not longer.

If you're going to point the finger at one thing which started the spiral out of control then it's not Roman buying Chelsea but the formation of the PL.

Oh behave ffs. Before the huge hike in domestic TV revenue the golden calf was the CL cash. The clubs who managed to get their noses into that trough had a massive financial advantage over the rest of the league, and so it was largely self sustaining. They wanted to keep it like that and squealed like stuck pigs when Chelsea then City upset the apple cart with huge owner investment. The idea that until that point it was extremely fair and equitable is laughable tbh.

At least the CL was a reward based on sporting achievement though.

For the clubs who spent the most money.

    I rest my case Ma’Lud.

Aren't Arsenal the only club in the top flight who didn't earn their spot in it on the pitch?

The formation of the PL invested money across the board though. I agree that it also saw a hike in transfer fees and wages. Chelsea just blew it out of all proportion though when RA came along.

If that money was spent within the club's means, then there's no problem.

If you invest a **** load of cash to buy your way into it, then for me that is problematic

It's the model now. Can't achieve success on the pitch ? Seek a Billionaire owner who will sink his vast wealth into the club to get you there.

So just a coincidence then that currently your club happens to have the highest match day income in the League <laugh>

So those clubs who benefitted from the PL gaining a 4th CL place *cough* and thus handing them a massive financial helping hand were sound, but those clubs who finished just behind them, who’s owners might have chosen to invest to try and break the glass ceiling were somehow ruining the game? **** off <laugh>

Did it? I thought it was a power grab from a minority taking the majority of cash.

More importantly it took the league worldwide and started the path towards crazy money.

Where do you draw the line then ? If it's based on sporting achievement surely it has to be on league finishing places.

Well that will come from the fact that we charge a ****in **** load for fans to get in <laugh>

Part of that is always going to be the demographic and geographic variation on living standards and wages etc.

London prices are always going to be higher than the North of England.

It was far more than that at the time. English football was a ****ing mess after Heysel then Hillsborough. There was virtually no live games on TV, the game was viewed as a sport that bred hooligans and there was next to **** all TV cash anyway before the inception of the PL, that was sort of the point of it happening.

As much as I mourned the end of the terraces and all seater stadiums, it actually helped to clean the game up and attract families to stadiums.
At least now we're getting a return to safe standing, not before time imo.

Our entire squad cost less than you paid for Richarlison and we are only 2 points behind you

Massive investment does not guarantee success or in some cases prevent relegation
