Don't know if it's the tactics or a lack of confidence but we look a bit like we did at the end of MON's reign - no idea what to do with the ball at our feet and very little threat up top
Speakman strikes me as the sort who cant admit he was wrong. So whilst his ego wont let go, we will suffer
Well,I didn't say he wasn't consistent, just not the most consistent. I don't have the stats, only my impressions of watching. He certainly didn't win 95% of headers on Saturday....I wasn't there last night. Don't get me wrong,I like the lad,his hold up play is good as is his first touch, and I like he's mobile. I was actually trying to defend him against any criticism coming from LJ.
Players being over coached, not able to assimilate so many tactical options and position changes, getting confused with what they should do.
He has but is that down to the supply dipping in the last few weeks? No idea whats gone on but the contrast over the past few weeks is ridiculous.
The delivery to him has been very poor...crosses particularly. He's constantly making channel runs, but the passes don't reach him. Apart from that cross from Luke on Saturday which he failed to get a touch on....should have been on it mind.....he's feeding on scraps. PS: Monty'll be along in a minute to say Wyke would have stuck it in......he might have, hitting his left knacker, onto his knee, then his shin and crept over the line.
I'm sure there's several reasons, in no particular order 1) It costs money to sack and replace managers so you will give him a chance 2) Sentiment, they have worked together on this 'project', so you will give him a chance. 3) KLD will not want the reputation of being a spoilt young kid so will possibly over compensate in giving him a chance. 4) Speakman and KLD will recognise that the squad is inexperienced, short of stature etc etc that they have provided LJ with. 5) Injuries. We have no full backs which also robs us of two midfielders. That's a pretty crap position to be in and it's effecting us attacking as well as defending. Theres probably more, including Mcgeady being on brink and Gooch going backwards etc. But you can see why he's not sacking just because a percentage of fans want a sticking plaster to make them temporarily feel better.
Stewert was the only ****er running about Saturday aswell team look flat, Saturday are cm were practically sitting in line with are CH all game, fullbacks and winger pushing into the middle trying to make it compact every time we didn't have the ball leaving too much space on the wings, didn't get the chance to watch the match yesterday so can't comment on that one
The way we were playing I would say we were top 3 certainties. We now look like mid table/hopeful for the play offs fodder. I would be tickled pink with securing a play off place at this stage. I remember when we played Wigan in the league cup. Both teams fielded a second XI. I remember reading from some Wigan fans that they were shocked at how much better our reserves were than theres. From that point on I thought we could only get stronger. Any injuries would be replaced by good players, unlike most of the rest of the league. Even on the occasional bad day we could pick up points. Our second string could make a good fist of it in this league even, I thought. What I didnt envisage was our first team turning to ****. I'm a self confessed pessimist, a doom a gloom merchant. The general drudgery of supporting this club for 35 years has made me to fully expect the worst. But even I'm shocked at how much we have dived over the past few weeks. Not just the team performances and manager but the confidence and swagger everybody had throughout the club and support. This club has and always will pull the rug out from under you. I bet if Neil Armstrong was a Sunderland supporter, the moment he first pressed his foot onto the surface of the moon, the world watching in awe, some little alien would have run over to him and kicked him in the bollocks.
