Really ? I did not know that, never seen the more recent version.

As you say, that is just wrong.

Still I suppose we can't have a scary ending to a film anymore. It might melt the poor snowflakes.

In Spain we are gently trending back up again. Usual story I guess. Infection rates go down restrictions ease, and we start to see infections rise. As with the UK, the health workers are going to see their free time vanish. It is a weird virus.

    The more things change....
I got back from the UK a month ago. Infection rates here in Spain were down to 40 per 100,000 and the news was full of how bad things were in Germany, Bulgaria and Rumania. And the infections here had begun to rise. Every day they went up a point or two, and every day the Spanish news was all about covid elsewhere with an occasional pat on the back for how great the vaccine roll out was going.
Another week, and I was watching the news thinking 'is no one else seeing this except me'? When the infection rate went over 60, they began to discuss whether maybe we might be going into another wave of infections, and one guy on TV even admitted it could go out of control if the government don't take measures. They didn't and its 90 per 100,000 and rising faster.
It would be great if they could realise a big covid surge in Belgium isn't going to make the Spanish one any less, but politicians seem to be crap everywhere now, and when the TV pointedly looks away while giving Spain a big 'ole', .... well, we get what we deserve I guess.

    Like looking in a mirror..............
The NHS is in deep deep trouble, not just this winter, but in the coming years as many doctors approach retirement age, and don't want to hang around any longer than they have to because of the conditions they're working under. We're going to lose all their invaluable experience at a time when we need it most.

I think patience is running out now with the large minority who won't take the vaccine.

It's going to continue to cripple economies and put health services under massive strain for years and years to come.
Corona will only be reduced to a nuisance if about 95% or more of people are regularly vaccinated.
This isn't a conspiracy for pity's sake, it is a fact.

I think in the next year or two folks who won't take the jab will find themselves forced out of society.
I already have no sympathy for them.
And I think even charitable folk who believe in freedom to choose will gradually give way on this.
We cannot have years or decades of mass hardship because of a bunch of refuseniks.

It's already caused genuine grief in an in-laws' family whose son refuses to get the jab because he doesn't think he needs it, and his Father is vulnerable. Another case of "I'm not an anti-vaxxer but...................."

    Exactly.

It's always "I'm not having the jab because (insert excuse that's all about me)"
Never a thought for other people.

Just getting over the bloody awful virus, I’d hate to think how I would of been without the jab!

Glad to hear you’re recovering. Unfortunately the short answer to your comment is “seriously ill or maybe dead”. How anyone can turn down the jab really is beyond me and yes I agree with Lardi, it’s time to stop messing around with people who won’t have it and crack on with making their lives as difficult as it is for those that do catch the virus even though they have had the jab.

Yesterday’s figures across Europe were truly staggering. Over 60,000 new cases in Germany. France and the Netherlands over 20,000, Austria nearly 15,000 and Italy back over 10,000. To be fair, Spain are doing ok at the moment but obviously that will undoubtedly rise over the coming days and weeks.

This virus is a very clever bugger.

There is a real danger that civil order will begin to break down across mainland Europe.
    Boris take note.

The vaccine was supposed to be our one big hope. The way back to a normal life for everyone.
But that hope is now being dashed, at least partly because of deliberate sabotage.

If National leaders are forced to choose between clamping down with force and taking away civil liberties to preserve their own power, or letting their societies disintegrate, they will clamp down. Freedoms we have always valued will be lost.

Yeah, the devil and the deep blue sea. Do we let the anti vaxxers keep allowing covid to fester and break out, bringing misery to front line health workers and sufferers and their families, or oblige people to take a vaccine they don't want and listen to the outrage when one of them keels over.

Genuinely bad choice to make, but I see it like people who shone lights during the black out during WW2. The common good needs to prevail.

I've got more sympathy for the poor souls who've been brainwashed on Facebook than for the "I'm not an anti-vaxxer, but.........................", who just can't be bothered.

I think there’s been rioting again in The Netherlands against Covid measures. Police attacked (yeah cos it’s all their fault isn’t it) and live shots fired in return.

For all the mistakes in the UK we do seem to be doing the right thing now. Cracking on with vaccinating and boosters and not panicking about high infection rates, but instead learning to live with the virus, not trying to eradicate it (which you scientifically simply can’t do).

Keep calm and carry on. Europe take note please.

It’s rife down here Lardy and mostly in the double jabbed 50+ year olds - if your lucky enough to be offered the booster do it ASAP!

Catching the virus and recovering from it is supposed to give the same protection as having a jab effectively. If you can still have the booster I’d say it’s almost like having four jabs in total :emoticon-0165-muscl:emoticon-0165-muscl:emoticon-0165-muscl:emoticon-0165-muscl
