But this is the part I don’t agree with. “Feet swiped” why should it make any difference as to where on the pitch this happens to the sanction imposed? It’s the same offence which is committed. Not saying the Brentford player tried to sweep Max’s feet. It was more a “taking him out” deliberately with no attempt to win the ball tackle.
But the Brentford player obviously thought it was a goal scoring opportunity otherwise he wouldn’t have been trying to take Max out. He wasn’t the last man but you don’t go round trying to take out opposition players unless you think your team is in serious trouble at least not nowadays. Serious trouble usually means you think the other team are likely to score.
I know: but if we give red cards out for that then I guess it means you can’t make a tackle or try and hinder a player. Man City do it all game long when a team attacks them they do them niggly fouls that stop play. Giving them an opportunity to get back into shape.
The worst foul in the game was Wilson on their defender after halftime. Imo that was the only foul worth a yellow. I hate cards it's ruining the sport and I accept yellows get dished out for **** all, but reds for standard fouls? God no
It would stop/reduce the number of deliberate fouls as that is what I’m griping about. Players would have to learn how to tackle and defend. It wouldn’t be aimed at fouls per se just deliberate fouls.
It would be ridiculous mate. Players getting sent off it would favour the big clubs with the ball and refs would get confused. Just play the game, don't give freekick unless it's a big foul imo. Teach them to stay in their feet.. Your rule would see more diving and exaggeration mate. You can't give reds for every single foul mate
I’m not trying to give red cards for every foul. I’ve made that clear. it may initially result in more diving but that’s where the referee needs to earn their money by being able to tell: 1. What is a foul. 2. What is a deliberate professional foul. 3. What is diving. Also, if it’s a dive then send the diver off. That would soon stop the diving. Not sure how this would confuse the referee. If it did then get rid of the referee. It would actually favour the ball playing attacking teams which isn’t a bad thing.
Having said this on Saturday I watched the highlights and actually think with Howe there is a (small) chance we could stay up. I mean the style of play - immediately obvious, didn't take him 2.5 years to let the players decided - the higher press, the attacking intent and threat, even just the amount of chances created and scored - apart from Burnley when was the last time we scored 3 - everything looked a lot better drilled after 2 weeks of Howe being in place. We need to sort out that defense ASAP though and get Dubz back i nnet - Darlow is not a EPL keeper. Happy to get in line for my pie!
I would suggest that the defence will take a little longer to get back into shape as they have been so poorly disciplined under Bruce. Give it another week or so of training for the new defensive methodology to sink in and I'm sure we'll see an improvement there as well as up top. And of course get our Number 1 keeper back playing. I'm hoping that Howe goes to a back 4 as we don't have any viable wing backs really, We have wingers asked to play there.
I quite liked our style of playing with nobody in defence on Sat, just need another few midfielders so we can play with a 0-7-3 formation unlike saturday where we only played a - 0-4-3 formation. Once Eddie remembers he can name 11 first team players we will be fine.
Starting to feel real hungry for this pie! A win against Villa and I'll be deepthroating some of that rich, creamy pie!
