Well that wasn't a good strat call running that long on mediums. Just shows how hard they are pushing! Wonder if they would have kept him out that long had he not lost so many places at start?
How close were they to bringing him in I wonder, looked like they were trying for a 1 stop with softs, considering how long he was out, they were going for 2nd I think.
Poor Bottas. Whenever something dramatic happens to Mercedes, it's nearly always him. His pace was still fine. If it's a wear-based puncture it's quite bad for Pirelli. No warning at all.
I was thinking they were trying to increase gap to Perez to allow pit stop and stay in front of him. Think they only needed 2 seconds more.
It's odd as his pace was still good until the puncture. Was it just wear or did he run over something? It's odd there can be grip for good lap times yet it can just go at the drop of a hat like that.
It's the front left which is highest loaded that goes. I said yesterday that merc were talking 1 stop and low tyre deg and horner was talking high wear front left. Mercedes ****ed this up. 30 laps medium and 27 on hard is no issue at all. Mr wolff has got this wrong and perez has 3rd sewn up. Bottas' only use here is to go and rob fastest lap point off verstappen
Red Bull seems to be trying to make the race entertaining single-handedly by dumping Perez into as much traffic as possible.
Astonishing strategy with Perez from Red Bull. I have never seen such poor decision making. Alonso will deserve his podium though
