Swansea City v Blackpool Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com stadium Date - 20 November 2021 Kick off - 3pm Following their disappointing 0-4 reverse away at Championship leaders Bournemouth, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is a home match against fellow Play-Off hopefuls Blackpool. In their last match before the International Break, the Swans’ improved run of results came to a shuddering halt as Bournemouth got back to winning ways with a clinical victory. After the Swans dominated early on, the Cherries went ahead when Philip Billing crossed for Dominic Solanke to fire home his 13th goal of the season. Solanke volleyed in Leif Davis' cross for 2-0 early in the second half before Ryan Christie had a shot blocked and Jaidon Anthony nodded in the rebound. Jamal Lowe then teed up Anthony to drive in a fourth in stoppage time. The visitors had began on the front foot, but had little to show from their early possession, apart from a penalty claim when the lively Ethan Laird felt he was tripped by Davis. The Swans rarely threatened home keeper Mark Travers in a bad-tempered game which saw referee Tony Harrington brandishing five yellow cards, four of them before half-time, and the match threatened to boil over when players clashed on several occasions. Whilst the Swans were losing to Bournemouth, Blackpool were coming back from a goal down to secure a point in an entertaining clash against QPR. Blackpool had the ball in net inside six minutes but Kenny Dougall's header was wrongly ruled out for offside because Gary Madine, who had been in an offside position, touched the ball after it had already crossed the line. The R's took the lead before the break through Chris Willock's beautifully-struck curling effort from the edge of the area. Madine smashed a penalty in after QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng had fouled Jordan Gabriel in the penalty area, and substitute Sonny Carey nearly won it for the hosts but his shot struck the outside of the post. The point meant that Mark Warburton's QPR team spent the international break in sixth place, while the Seasiders were in 10th, one point behind QPR and 2 points and 2 places above the Swans. The SwNs have played Blackpool on 43 previous occasions, winning 13, losing 14, with 16 matches drawn. The teams last met in Swansea, at the then Liberty Stadium in October 2009, when Paolo Sousa’s Swansea squad drew 0-0 with Blackpool. This was the season when Ian Holloway’s Blackpool secured promotion to the PL when they beat Cardiff in the Play-Off final. (For that Play-Off Final, rather than sing I’m Swansea til I die, my mate changed the words to I’m Blackpool til July ) Turning to Saturday, Russell Martin and the squad will be eager to show that the Bournemouth result was a one-off aberration, whilst Blackpool will ge keen to maintain their own charge to the Play-Offs. If the Swans do hold aspirations of making the Play-Offs, then this is the type of match that they need to win. I’m going 2-1 to the Swans
We must see a reaction to the Bournemouth defeat. Agree with you Taff, this is the sort of game we must win at home to be showing real progression. 3 - 1 Swans.
Thanks Taff. Our form post international breaks has been good this season and I anticipate we will keep this going on Saturday. So it's a 2-0 win for me.
Reading have had a 6 points deduction. The club have a further six-point deduction suspended until the end of next season, provided they comply with a business plan. It sees Reading drop from 16th to 19th in the Championship, on 16 points, four clear of the relegation places.
Thanks Taff....no sympathy for Reading or Derby for that matter.....rules are rules and our owners have probably done everything they had to do to keep us in the black and trading positively...anyway a win against Blackpool on Saturday is a must to prove that the loss at Bournemouth was a flash in the pan
