Not sure we can ever expect to be galactico type level. I suppose its possible, but it took Man C a long long time to get their seat at that table. I'd say it was easier to do then too due to not every club being laden with money. I can't say I worry but one thing I do know is we have more financial backing than any other club on the planet. A quick look through history tells you what happens to those clubs.

However I don't underestimate anything. Indeed the underestimation certainly lies with those refusing to accept what's coming. The reality is in ten years time, the most likely scenario is that we are at the very least competing in European competition again. I'd say that is probably well over 90% in likelihood, money is the key to success in modern footy afterall. I think most of our fans would be happy with that after the last 15 years. And yes we may well have to do a year in the Championship again due to the state of play this year. Meh, as I say it is just a delaying of the inevitable. I think all NUFC fans are quite relaxed about relegation now.

I think what people who boo boo the idea that we will progress fail to understand is that these guys aren't here for fun. The bigger over arching picture is they are on a mission to move forward and move their image into the modern world. As we've seen with Man C no expense is too great to achieve that. We are just a small part of the picture but in their eyes a very important one because of the ability football has to cross boundaries outside of footy. We've just hit the jackpot.

Might be my real name for all you know. I heard the name Charlie Dogscock used somewhere years back, can't remember the circumstance, but I remember liking the bluntness of the name.

Sorry if I'm cracking you up again... I assume you're referring to amusement, rather than alluded to the supply of your narcotics. If you were to get drugs from Mags, they'd mix them with additives that would turn you into a drooling, monosyllabic deformed monstrosity. Actually that would explain quite a bit....

I believe I am the one saying "moral compass" quite frequently but equally I make a point of saying everyone is right to question the Saudi state ownership and the more it is spoken about the better - this is how change will come about - look at F1 they've come out this week and said we know the issues and want to work with the Saudis to bring about change. What happens out there is abhorrent and I agree with those outside the club that those wearing the Saudi dress, filming themselves dining on the national foods for clicks and waving their flags (with the text - There is no god but Allah; Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah) are ignoramuses' with little to no understanding of what they are actually supporting. A little while ago we had a saying as a club "support the team not the regime" - not heard that in a while... Anyone trying to downplay the Saudi's crimes are "see you next Tuesdays" of the highest order.

The problem the Saudi's have is that we are a "big club" in nothing but name currently and the HR abuse is being spoken about constantly across all forms of media - imagine the press they will be getting when we start winning trophies? OK maybe a section of the fan base will rejoice a few trophies and laud the Saudis for it but every other Tom Dick and Harry will (rightfully) bring up the HR abuse.

Not going to give any other examples of HR Abuse across the world as it's supposedly "whatabouttery" but my opinion is you can't pick and chose which HR abuse you are against - either call it all out or don't be surprised when you get fans going "well it's not just our owners". But as you say "its not our problem" the other stuff going on and Newcastle are the be all and end all of the world.

It would. Clearly using your own product, eh? I'll pass and stick to my drug of choice, to wit Fuller's ESB.

Sensible stuff. The only fly in the ointment might be financial fair play rules, but l suspect they would merely delay matters. Certainly the Saudis are serious players and it would be naive to think they don't have a plan. The FA gave them an extra year to think things over, after all...!

Why is your board so dull these days? I can understand why you're over here all the time; I used to love it when Comm and that old fart Fredor were constantly at each other throats, but they've both dissappeared now. Also you seem all he getting along now, I miss the hilarious days of a few years ago where you'd all be arranged fights and show downs with each other.

More sensible stuff. The Saudi regime is pretty grim, but we do business with them all the time, just like all the other dubious regimes. That's why l would have sucked it up if they'd chucked their money our way. But really I hope that the attention they get from sporting investments prods them into genuine action on HR, not just some sort of woolly PR response, but we shall see.

We actually talk about football these days, which is nice. But Billy and Pops died; Comm and Bri don't post any more; a little less RTG; has settled the board down. I only come over to this thread as you won't want me sticking my oar in everywhere else. This is simply a handy spot for a bit of piss-taking and (occasionally) debate.

do you put Germany Italy and Japan into the grim regime category
we were at war with these, with millions of lives lost and horrendous crimes against humanity
but with time and dialogue (kicking the **** out of them helped) they now are valuable trading partners
If you don't invite them to the table they will never change

Fair enough I knew those guys had passed away, Billy in particular seems quite a sad story as I don't think he was that old.

I assume Fredor's pushing up the daisies now too as he always used to say he was in his 80s years ago.... unless of course he was the joke account of a 16 year old kid, which is fairly likely.

Don't be daft. That's WWII ancient history and the Saudis are very much at the table already, as we need their oil. Our blind eye to most of what they get up to doesn't help.

I think you'll find it's as much the strategic location of Saudi and the fact they're the only power over there to even have a half a chance of a strike back at Iran should it ever be required.
