The memorial for pilot Guy Gibson’s pet was removed after a ‘corporate’ decision found the word was ‘completely at odds’ with modern times. An online petition calling for the reinstatement of the gravestone – which featured the N-word for the name of the Wing Commander’s black Labrador retriever – has attracted 27,800 signatures.
