4 supermarkets an experiment .. i tend to do 1 major shopper month, with fresh veg etc fortnightly, so compiled a list from my previous 3 tesco reciepts.. not worried about the price on them , so divided items by 4 [ or increased to 4 ] started in TESCO and then to ALDI [ to get 2 weeks veg etc ] folloed by LIDL then SAINSBURY.
Compared prices of main [ heinz etc ] but bought "own brand " [ to be equal ]
The biggest difference was some biscuits .. digestive or choc coated or individuals [ similar to penguin/kit etc ]
winner of Digestives was ALDI and choc covered Aldi Individuals were Tesco
cakes and pastries choice and price LIDL, although TESCO do a bread that is cranberry and nuts .. to die for.
Beans and toms based on my marking flavour quantity and price all came out within 5p price range . but heinz or italian branded whole toms choice infuture.
LIDL had a good selection of "other sausages" Bratwurst etc but not a lot to choose.
meat ... Tesco and Sainsbury fought out the higher prices LIDL' just beat ALDI , but need to watch what the weights are and appearnce of "package regarding fat etc "
fruit and veg a nightmare TESCO'S seem to be consistent, watch the display date info for ripeness, LIDL bottom ALDI and Sainsbury ripe or green again the display date a good indicator for immediate consumption.
In all instances "price for item" needs to check quantity / weight. Best average Tesco/ Sainsbury ... ALDI / LIDL often lower price lower weight!
my conclusion after 2 major shops [ 2 months ] Main shop will be Tesco all in all with the card and points is almost as cheap as others .. however a trip to Aldi and Lidl once a month for items of choice about 10 -12 items is in order.
did I save any money had I shopped non Tesco ... yes through the till pre discounts about 9% .. after about 6-7% .... after credit card bonus pts / loyalty maybe 5% about £3 a week. some of the LIDL veg / fruit didnt last and thrown out, so savings lost! OTHER 3 got away with it! or portion sizes allowed for freezing some!

have a costco card but seldom use it ...

Visa credit card co has gotten really greedy and now lost £bn's from AMAZON over the next few years ... Amazon has cancelled visa credit cards [ not debit as no charge on them ] Mastercard will get a massive boost ? currently around £3 a share

@realred1952 and anyone else for that matter.

Not about the weekly shop, but as it's a bit of an off topic random thread with this midweek absence of the boring football we're both experiencing, this might be something else to bore you, or even interest you, JGF in particular.

Sad to say, my kitchen waste bin fell off the door this morning. It's one of those that's attached to the sink base unit door and swings out when you open it. The plastic swivel pin under the base of the bin had completely collapsed.

Sorted now. Made a new locating pin from a bolt through a stainless steel pattice cut from an old SS post box I replaced last year but kept - sheet stainless steel sheet can come in very handy. Templated it to cover and reinforce the broken section at the base of the waste bin and then permanently fixed it with Araldite Rapid. Better than ever now.

Anybody had a similar problem or done a repair job on something with which you were particularly chuffed? It's not compulsory to reply......<laugh>

I had spaghetti bolognaise for tea once. Funny thing is it never had mushrooms in it. How me and the wife laughed.

I could write a book ...lol!!!
nice one, gorilla glue thats the large pots 500ml not the tiddly little ones with about 60ml in for £3 something, is a very good substitute as a fixing /filler [ like gluing of course thats what gorilla does! ] for araldite. It spreads out fills all the gaps and can be trimmed neat with a sharp blade.
Just put the leg back on the duck, [ Gorilla glue] and repaired a tripod [araldite super steel ]

NEITHER any good to repair CCFC or BCFC
