There was a documentary about kamikaze pilots, and they were treat like Gods before the flight with all of their desires fulfilled. One guy went through it over a dozen times and had a load of imaginative reasons why he didn't fulfill his mission, and would try harder next time...and can he have a different whore before the next one.

The terrorist behind an attack on a Liverpool hospital betrayed the city that he had appeared to embrace while seeking asylum.

Emad Al Swealmeen, 32, was taken under the wing of a retired senior British army officer after visiting Liverpool’s Anglican cathedral and expressing an interest in converting from Islam to Christianity.

Al Swealmeen had arrived in the UK in about 2014 but his original claim for asylum was rejected because officials believed he was Jordanian and not Syrian, as he stated.

He had told officials he had a Syrian father and Iraqi mother and that he was born in Iraq, close to the Syrian border. He claimed he had come to the UK after spending time with relatives in Dubai. He had reapplied for asylum but his immigration status at the time of his death was unclear.

Al Swealmeen, who called himself Enzo Almeni, suffered mental health problems and was sectioned seven years ago after trying to kill himself by jumping off an overpass, while waving a knife, in central Liverpool. He adopted the first name of the founder of Ferrari because of his love of motor racing.



After being released from psychiatric hospital he went to the Anglican cathedral, close to the scene of Sunday’s attack, where he met an evangelical couple, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Hitchcott, 77, and his wife, Elizabeth.

Hitchcott, a Sandhurst graduate, had spent 24 years in the army before devoting himself to his faith. He became a Capital of Culture events co-ordinator at the cathedral, studied theological and pastoral studies at Emmanuel Bible College, Birkenhead, and is a former general secretary at the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Scripture Readers Association.

Hitchcott recalled yesterday how Al Swealmeen arrived at the cathedral in August 2015 saying he wanted to convert. Hitchcott, who was helping to hold Bible classes for asylum seekers, said the visitor took an Alpha course to teach him about Christianity. He was confirmed as a Christian in March 2017.

“He had had a problem, I believe he was sectioned,” Hitchcott said. “He was not entitled to accommodation by the Home Office but they put him up in a house for a period of grace but that ran out after six months.”

The Hitchcotts took him in when he fell out with his flatmates in north Liverpool and asked if he could sleep on their sofa. Al Swealmeen moved into the couple’s home close to the River Mersey for eight months.

Hitchcott's Facebook account shows the couple took Al Swealmeen to Speke Hall, the grade I listed Tudor manor house and grounds on the banks of the Mersey. Another showed Al Swealmeen at the cathedral with the caption: “Last night in Liverpool Cathedral. A very special night for two young men.” He also appeared to have taken the young asylum seeker go-karting.

The images also show the Hitchcotts smiling and posing with him on a walk around the gardens and woodland surrounding Speke Hall.

Al Swealmeen, dressed in casual western clothes, appears happy in the photographs, posted on Facebook in April 2017. Hitchcott had earlier posted an image of a poppy with the words “Lest we forget” beneath.


Associates claimed they believed Al Swealmeen was only interested in converting to Christianity because he believed it would assist his asylum claim. He had made a new application in 2017.

He was supported by Christian volunteers from a network of churches who help asylum seekers.

Al Swealmeen moved to a rented flat in Sefton Park, a short walk from the Hitchcotts’ home, where he lived with a group of men including fellow asylum seekers from the Middle East.

After discovering that Al Swealmeen had been identified as the bomber, Hitchcott said: “We are shocked. A less likely candidate I couldn’t imagine. He was well mannered and quiet.”

His wife added: “We loved him.”



No word yet on just how heavy a cannabis user he was. But they always are.
