Around then, all I knew about football was what I was told by my dad and from the rare times it was on TV - a 17 inch Murphy I think (no jokes please :emoticon-0105-wink:).

There were the headline bustling CF's like John Charles and Bobby Smith always cropping up, but it was a frail looking guy who brought football magic to the game for me as a sprog just beginning to understand it all. A certain Mr. John White whose life was tragically cut short - anyone remember him?

    OMG - From Wikipedia
John Anderson White (28 April 1937 – 21 July 1964) was a Scottish international football midfielder and sometime inside right who played a significant role for Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) during their Double winning season in 1960–61. He had two brothers, Eddie and Tom, who were also professional footballers. White was killed by a lightning strike at the age of 27. !!!

I was nine at the time of that game and I had already started to idolise the Gentle Giant. Never, ever thought I would see the day when he and his brother would play for the Bluebirds.
Some great names from my childhood there inc luding the great Jack Kelsey of whom Pele said was probably the best goalkeeper he'd played against. I'm not sure he played against him more than once, but the acolade is still valid in my book.

When I was young football to me apart from Don Murray, Ronny Bird and Bobby Woodruff, meant Football Focus with Sam Leitch.
MOD was a highlight of the week, TBM on Sunday was another hoping the City game would be one of the regional picks and Coleman midweek showing a Cup replay.
Plus of course the vidiprinter results!

In this picture of Ron back in '63, I remember playing with footballs like that. If you headed them when wet, you nearly got concussed.

One of my earliest memories was attending this game at Windsor Park. Nothing wrong with that goal in my opinion although I’m not sure it would be allowed today.
