It was said in jest but it's funny because it has an element of truth. Obviously the Dems are more left than the Republicans but it's all relative. They are very much center left at most, but some of their own members are decidedly right wing. That Senator Manchin fella for a start, he might as well be a republican, he hasn't got an ounce of lefty in him. He even describes himself as a moderate conservative democrat and is well known for working with Republicans on many issues and working against his own party too.

A comparable country, Norway, which did have lockdowns has the 145th highest deaths per million, almost a 10th of those in Sweden. Finland and Denmark also have significantly lower deaths per million. As hopefully this pandemic is a once in a lifetime thing each country did what they thought was best for them. At some point it would be great if the wise and good sat down and decided what worked and what didn't in the various situations so that we don't have to learn by trial and error again.
