Sedgefield 1.47 Mayor Snugfit I really like this horse. Backed it last year when first past the post over C&D and disqualified. Backed it again when succesfull on the flat this summer. On a good mark back over hurdles and stable amongst the winners last 14 days. Solid chance at 9/2 on offer.
Hello, team. Hope everyone A-OK. Can I just ask the question, or raise the point, of what the bally 'eck is going on with the NH horses this term??? So many potentially exciting novice hurdlers and chasers and even established stars have not so much as received an entry so far this season. Will they ever reappear?!? And on at a personal level, earlier in the campaign, I gave a list of 6 NH horses (3 trained in Ireland, 3 in England) to follow but, so far, not so much as 1 of them has run in 2021/22!!! Insert your own joke here if you must. I thought the NH season was supposed to be less spring Festival focussed but it would appear we may becoming even more so (if current entries are a guide). Jonbon is my number one horse to follow, this term, but what will happen re him (and animals like him) a couple of runs (at cramped odds in uncompetative events) before being unleashed at Cheltenham??? Just a bit of thinking aloud, people, but to me this is not the way forward.
Fair point, well made. Cheltenham quite healthy on Saturday, re numbers, but it does make you wonder how many will turn up re next weekend's 'Betfair Chase'. The forecast for the next 7 days suggests little to no rain.
Line Graphs show number of races in October over fences & hurdles in UK per October and how many total runners in October in those races. Shows slightly fewer races in 2021 (10 fewwr) but a massive 700 fewer runners. However the bar chart is more important for me. Many more races on good ground this October and fewer on soft and good-soft .
I suppose watering is out of the question? Only 2 opponents for My Drogo tomorrow. What is old boy Claisse doing?
Believe they have been watering, and we’ve had some amount of rain over last couple of days. Issue is 48 hour declarations too, you aren’t going to bother declaring on good ground
Don't decent horses run on good ground (I feel it's illogical just to write that)?. It's hardly surprising to have good ground at times during the season. Surely you can't be regarded a good horse or better if you can only run on ground with soft in its name.
Good ground is an silly name for it, because the ground named hood is actually fast for horses jumping obstacles. At the beginning of a season you wouldn’t want to risk horses getting increased impact forces through their legs and an increased risk of injury as result. We have also seen a massive amount of good ground and many horses haven’t been out because of it. The issue is also compounded by the over worked drainage at courses so they dry up much faster which is what you are seeing with Wincanton and Cheltenham. Drainage is great for getting rid of waterlogging, but it has a downside too.
Gin On Lime - one of your old favorites - didn’t you put him up as a bumper horse a few years back? Or a novice hurdle at least
Before widespread watering horses ran on the going they were presented with. The greatest steeplechaser ever won on Good to Firm more than once and never missed a race because of the going. The fastest Grand National was run on good to firm and guess what fewer horses fell in the race too. Most racing is run on artificial going. Why don't we run everything at Southwell?
7 races a season then? How many of those runs were on faster than good-soft before Christmas? Genuinely don’t know but would be fascinating to know.
Must be something in one of the many books about him you’d think. Of the 35 races he ran in, 22 were handicaps. Indeed in his peak years as a staying chaser, the only non-handicaps he contested were the King George and Cheltenham Gold Cup.
