Not really, the taste for sacking managers so quickly has only really happened in the last 30 years or so. Taking Denis Smith, our manager the last time we were in this division, as an arbitrary point to go from, we've had 22 managers in the last 30 years. In the 108 years that the club existed before that we had 16. Looking at another club, say Aston Villa, who have appointed a new manager today, from 1884 to 1991 (when Smith was sacked as our manager) they had 17 managers, in the 30 years since, they've had 14 managers. The increased trend for sacking managers has developed alongside the increased level of media scrutiny on them. What happens when you sack a manager? The players stay the same, their ability doesn't improve. A manager can only do so much. They can tell players what to do, they can show them in training but if a player doesn't do what he's been asked, if he doesn't carry out his assigned task, there is little a manager can do. Clearly our players were doing what was asked of them by Johnson previously. The sudden drop off in results suggests that there is something else at play. If you look beyond the results, the data (or what you can find online) suggests that we're losing because of errors, not overall poor performances. He won't have suddenly started telling them to do the wrong thing, so it follows that improving confidence, perhaps a slight change in approach their form can be reignited. Just as managers in the past would have been given time to do. Solely blaming a manager for a run of poor form is like being **** at FIFA and blaming it on your PlayStation controller.
My twopenneth worth, is that managers get sacked when they lose lots of matches. LJ has lost some matches not lots. Although if you ask me to put a figure on 'lots' pass. My best guess would be we have to start winning again before the end of December. Then any new manager can have a say on the transfer window.
Oh I’m not saying anything of the sort re “what ifs?” mate. I’m on the “in” side of the fence with Johnson, but Liverpool and City were in a far better position than us when they changed managers. Both already fighting for honours every season. Not languishing in the 3rd division. Also, do we just keep trying the same failed method until it actually works? That could take years. Or it could work next time. Again one of those what if scenarios!! If there is someone out there who is likely to get us out of this league then great, but I don’t think there is. I’m just saying we have tried changing, every season down here. It’s failed every time. Every time. Except maybe last year where we actually won a trophy and undoubtedly improved from Parkinson who would’ve been lucky to get us 8th imo! Jonnsons comments re expectations were absolutely spot on. Getting promoted from this division isn’t “high” expectations. It’s a minimum. Context is everything. He didn’t say “we’re not expecting to get promoted” just that getting promoted isn’t something I’d see as high expectations. Nor should anyone else
Don’t have a clue how true it is or if it’s just a total bullshit rumour doing the rounds but I’ve heard Lee Johnson has been having an affair with somebody who works for the club. That would be a reason he looks to have lost the dressing room. Like I say it’s probably just a bullshit rumour but interested to see if anyone else has heard it.
Apologies, I included it for effect, sorry it upset you and the other x's (the ones who liked your post who probably used to post over the road, like me, but I'm now glad to be here).
I suppose if he’s happy to finance the whole project and he’s not bothered why should we worry, it would be nice to get out of this league this season though. The feel good factor is rapidly diminishing.
Like I said, there's a 5 year plan, the be all and end all is not promotion this season, why handicap the manager and make the natives restless - as we are already seeing on here? Whatever happens, at the end of the season LJ position will be reviewed. KTF
Wright. Contractual obligation apparently Strange clause Bring him on every game regardless and shag him
sorry like, but a new loaded owner, fans back in the stadium, a decent squad assembled while getting shot of the dead wood, I'm sorry like but I'm in full agreement, promotion was the absolute must. Very early days and still could happen. However, the "free hit" was last season, not this one.
