The 'hissy fit with the council' was the downfall. I still say to this day that the council and the club lost probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something amazing for this city.
And it takes two to tango.

Sorry but I just don't see it that way, and really struggle to show any 'humility' (if that is even the right word) toward them.
First off, it wasn't them that got the monkey off our backs and raised the expectations of what was possible.
The best times imo was May 2009 and the first half of the 2009/10 season. Incredible. Well, plus I guess the opening of the KC and what followed under AP. Great, great times that I never thought I'd see (sell outs, kids proud to wear City shirts not just in Hull but throughout EY and beyond, promotion to the PL).
It could and should have been so different. But it wasn't. They have pretty much wasted the 2nd and 3rd bites at the golden goose, left no positive legacy bar a decimated fan base. Most owners are only really in it for themselves, but at least, unlike the Allams, they are honest about it.
They, or at least the old man, has done great things for the region (as well as some bizarre things) and fair play for that, but his tenure at City was not one of them. It should have been oh so different. I'm glad that we finally see the back of them.
I know, nothing that hasn't been said a hundred times already.

A lot of truth in that ulrika, only i would add, that everything they have done regarding hull city a.f.c,they have done for the benefit of themselves. I have no problem with that as the new owners will also have their own interests at heart. But hopefully their interest will be in making city a better club rather than the infrastructure benefits that the allams were really after

I'm of the age supporting City when we were told we would never get to the First Division because we couldn't afford it. Bartlett and Phil Brown got us there for the first time in 104 years and put us within hours of being declared bankrupt to do it. Perhaps my generation were told the truth ?

The problem with this is that Assem Allam wanted to buy the stadium and the land around it for....

    £350,000.

    Not £35m.

Not even £3.5m but Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand pounds.

Of course he was laughed out of the room.

    And he threw a tantrum.

In all honesty, Why should HCC have taken them seriously??

Our new Turkish Overlords would not have to try too hard to get everybody back onside tbh!

According to who ? That's the first time I've heard those figures mentioned, it does make a change from those ITK who say Assem wanted it for nothing, However instead of trying to do a deal or even call a full council meeting to discuss any offer of investment in HU3 ( one of the most deprived areas in the UK) 'he was laughed out of the room' was he ? Not by the council leader either, it was his deputy ( who was later thrown out of the party) doing the laughing. With that sort of un professional response from HCC, I wonder why no-one has invested in the area since ?

The good times we had under the allams will be remembered for a lot longer then the bad things IMO. It's not turned out the way it should have been and that's their fault ( not helped by the council ) but Assam has done far more great things for the region on the whole which will help way more people in real life changing situations. Football at the end of the day is a hobby/entertainment and in the grand scheme of things pales in comparison to the other things. From a football POV I just hope the day they go the football fans that dislike the family just drop it and move on allowing the old man to just enjoy the last years of his life in the region and city he loves without any abuse.

Who would have funded the Academy, where would the money have come from ?
    the council No
    the Rugby club no
mainly grants awarded to the football club
Like UP said massive opportunity missed and the area has never been developed because of politics and probably hull fair

For an underdeveloped area part of the income from the sale can come from the attractions developed and built, so while the fee may be small, it can actually lead to further income. I wouldn't have thought he should have been laughed out of the room for such a proposal.

You seem to be confusing 2 separate issues.
Us getting into the PL did not near bankrupt us.
What happened once we got there ii.e. mistakes made over the following near 3 years, maybe did.
(And to note we are now once again back in the same sort of debt ,and in an even lower league position, than when the Allams 'saved' us. The positive point of course is that the debt is not with 3rd parties. 2 further bites at the golden goose and we are no better off, but nobody tellls them how to run their business.Yes, it was great getting promoted again twice and getting to an FA cup final, but personally I will look back on their era with sadness & contempt for what they have done to 'our' club and how badly they've mismanaged what they inherited and the golden opportunities they've had.

Nail on the head. The initial plan was a £100m investment made up from an input from the football club and the council which then would trigger the grants, some sports some Government which were available for areas like HU3. Manchester and Leeds councils managed to carry this off by working alongside their football clubs. In Hull, like some on here, the offer was laughed at.
Reasons given later, after intervention from Alan Johnson MP, were 'we already have a swimming pool down Albert Avenue' This was shut down at the time and only recently has had millions of pounds of public money spent on it.
Any new hotel or retail outlets would detract from the city centre.
To safeguard Hull Fair and Hull FC's future.
    So nothing happened.

The owners have now bought all the land surrounding the stadium to develop further. I think the difference being Leicesters owners seem to have the football and the citizens at the centre of what they do.

I know what Urika's saying, I'm from the Needler era too. Yes i've seen things at this great Club I never thought I would see but then he blotted his copy book with his hissy fits. I thank him for the good times but which were over shadowed by bad. I'm not going to list them because that's been done too many times already. But I will be glad to see change of ownership and I won't apologise for that.

I'm confusing nothing. When the Allam's bought the club we were hours away from going into administration.

The deal was done one night at Elland Road after a Leeds v City game, we were in the Championship and on the verge of going into administration. I never said anything about it being done 'when we entered the PL'

"Bartlett and Phil Brown got us there for the first time in 104 years and put us within hours of being declared bankrupt to do it. "

They did not put us within hours of being declared bankrupt to get into the PL, Bartlett did it trying to stay there. As Gone For A Walk said, you're combining two separate issues.
