If that's the case they should pack up and f**k off. I'm sick to death of players not wanting to play for the manager. Even if Johnson is the worst man in the world they're playing for the club, the supporters and the big bags of money we give them every week. They were playing for the manager when they were lapping up the applause at Loftus Road ... ... either play the game or go away and don't come back.
As I say I’m not daft enough to lap it all up but if there is bad man management that might also mean low confidence. I’m with you - players are playing for the club ultimately but if you spend every day with someone you can’t stand in front of your face then it will inevitably have an impact. What I feel like I’ve seen is over confidence and disorganisation. If players have a wel drilled clear plan it gives them confidence and cohesion. It doesn’t appear to be there right now.
I watched west ham earlier and I thought they were exceptional. Such a well coached team. Moyes is like a technical genius with that lot. He is my least favourite Sunderland manager though. I could never see him producing that sort of team again. Even West Ham fans love him, and they take some pleasing. What a turnaround. Not sure what that means to this thread other than to say do coaches need some time...
I've said this before on here, but I know for a fact that amongst his peers, Moyes was always regarded as a top, top coach. His spell with us does not appear to have damaged his reputation.
think it was the west ham game i watched last week/earlier in the week where they did basically feck all in the first half yet came out and won the game in the second with a different display...might be as it was moyes team i did not really want to credit him but it does hit deep that he could do nothing with the squad he had here. have to say he has done and is continuing to do good work where he is, not sure where i am going with this either, maybe sometimes it is just 'wrong time, wrong place' and no matter how good the manager/coach it or how much he tries it just does not work.
Mate you have hit a nail firmly on the head. But it isnt they have chucked un under Johnson, but that players dont really ever chuck it in, at least not in the sense they all do it together. Players dont really switch off because of a coach. They are too selfish for that and have a bigger picture. Have a think about our team. Hoffman, Dujauku, Doyle on loan. It penalises them to not play for Johnson, not Johnson. Neil and Cirkin playing for international youth places. Stewart supposedly close to a call up. Embleton a local lad. McGeady has been rescued by Johnson. Winchester has played for him before. Evans wants to keep his international place. The whole idea these players would cut their nose off to spite their face is nonsense. The reality is much more likely they are either shot confidence wise, have played too many intensive games are young and inconsistent, or are not as good as we want them to be. Likely a bit of all these.
Also meant to add mate that if there is evidence that a few dont believe in Johnson, wouldnt it be nice to have a strong minded senior structure to get rid of them, and keep a coach. At some point we need a coach the owners and directors believe in and players that are treated as employees ranking below the coaches. Otherwise we will end up a club good coaches laugh at and avoid, because we are ran by weak people. I am.confident these new people are better than that.
Trying too hard, after a failure, often makes things worse ... ... whether that's playing football, learning to water ski or having sex. I suspect that's what's happened with the team after Charlton which has affected subsequent performances. In each case you need to stand back, take a deep breath then just believe you can get back on and show what you can really do. (NB, I've only had failures in two of the three situations.)
i am thinking along the same lines, having read your posts the past few days it does make good sense...i have never understood this train of thought that players simply 'down tools' as most have plenty still to play for which you explain perfectly. i feel the young lads have certainly taken a big knock here, we all know that as kids on the green winning games had you almost screaming for the next game...lose a couple and it was 'dinner time', this was usually a time when the 'big lads' would have a word and try to give you a boost so i guess our 'big lads' are the clubs older players and the management team so somewhere down the line that boost is either not forthcoming or it is not working and this is where LJ needs to earn his wedge. pretty sure i said early season there was every chance we would hit a blip especially with the young lads playing more than they ever have and facing a different style than they are used to (mind, i was not expecting a complete turn around in fortunes) so we need to see something fast to show it is being worked on, see more fight in the lads and a willingness to make space for the pass etc, i really hope we do see it as we all want out of this league.

Agree with that. On Saturday I saw precious little courage in and out of possession. Dan Neil was the only who constantly showed for the ball. Some of our senior players such as Evans, Wright and Flanagan were absolute cowards. Evans in particular was a disgrace on Sat
Peterborough weren’t sloggers, nor Coventry or Luton when they went up. We need to toughen the **** up, fight fire with fire when necessary, but play our own footballing game.
Evens has done nothing for me to think he’s one of the better players tbh. Always injured and has been bang average when he’s played.
