Howe would have been amazing for us in league one before we got Johnson, probably (maybe definitely) was too much of a long shot to have happened but he's got form for building a team from scratch. Spending the big bucks and being successful in the premier league...? Form not so great.
Id be pretty deflated if i was a Mag. After failing at Burnley Howe returned and done a fantastic job with Bournemouth in the lower leagues and getting them to the Prem and establishing them there. Once he was finally able to spend some cash thats when it all went tits up and ultimately ended up with him getting sacked and Bournemouth relegated. Howe would be brilliant for somebody like us, but to be going to a club that wants/needs to throw money around i can only see Howe failing. He built his reputation up as a manager working on a budget. This appointment smells of desperation from their new owners to me.
Well Howe held all the cards there mind, so I expect he'll have extracted a canny deal.for himself. They just could not afford to have another bloke publicly turn them down. Not sure what to make of him. Bit of a media darling for a while. But he'll have to get used to some pelters coming his way at away grounds, supporters all over will be waiting to abuse them.
he's the last name on their list, everyone else has said 'no thanks'.......can't wait for footballs most fickle fans to realise they've signed Frank Spencer instead of Frank Sinatra!
Yeah I mean he's young and will probably have learned from past mistakes but who exactly is going to be in charge of recruitment, the same geniuses who bought Joelinton or Howe who spent a fortune with little to show for it. If it was more of a coaching role with everything else rock solid behind the scenes it'd make sense but that's hardly the case.
I know money helps but what must it be like publicly knowing you are 5th, 6th or seventh choice for the job.
Surely the richest club in the world can afford better than someone who hasn’t been in employment for over a year. I think they can forget about Mbappe being their first signing Is the penny going to drop with them?
He's a prime example of what an embarrassing bunch of fooking cùnts they are. Everyone's favourite second club my arse. They were a Laughing stock before all this Fùckwittery. They're like a backstreet z list circus. They think we're all jealous they're considered the richest club now. Well they could win the the league for the next twenty years whilst we stayed in league 1 and I'd still rather be us. Fooking clowns
Gone very quiet all of a sudden Just had a look at their new manager thread and very underwhelmed, shelvey will be packing his bags apparently, oh, and they are hoping for 3 wins by January...
It's obviously a bit of desperation and not the flash name they wanted, but in terms of some of the journeymen dross we've had (Pardew, McClaren, Bruce, Kinnear etc), Howe is a definite improvement. His career isn't full of sackings and relegations like those guys, and his work at Bournemouth was incredible. As for working on a budget, that's actually a good thing for us right now, as he has to make do with the squad hes got at least until January and get the best out of it and get some points on the board. Man City had to start with Hughes when the money came in, and this is similar. With a director of football they'd be guidance for signing, and his signings were mostly good for Bournemouth, OK Ibe was a disaster, but not many misfires apart from that.
Only problem with that hypothesis is that you'd normally appoint a DOF first. Seems like they just wanted to sack Bruce to appease the fans with no plan at all
Doesn't seem like they had anything whatsoever lined up for when they took over does it. I reckon they just assumed that people would come running for the cash and it would all be straightforward. Bit more to running a successful club than that.
Funny that because Howe has a similar win ratio to Pardew and worse than McLarens over their entire careers, Joe Kinnear was an absolute piss take. I would say that Howe paid ridiculous fees for average footballers and also left Burnley for personal reasons after taking them backwards in the Championship That said looking at Steve Bruce's record, his two worst win ratios were at Newcastle and Sunderland by quite a margin. So much for going home to the hotbed of football. I wonder how long it will be before he blames the pressure of the mag fans Howe may well be a success but lets not try and change history when only a matter of weeks ago, Conte or Emery were being thrust down our throats. It is quite clearly a come down and a kick to the gonads. No amount of mag propaganda is going to tell me otherwise
