Back from the dentist. Still got a hole in my gum/sinus so they've referred me on to oral surgery at the hospital Should be a reet laugh that ...
Did you end up having that procedure where they cut a piece of fat out of your cheek and sew it into the hole ?
No, they realised a piece of the bone that been damaged had literally died and fallen off, so the hole ended up being a chasm as they removed it, together with 2 more teeth. It was an absolute ****show.
I quite like the head I've got. But I'll have a look to see what they've got on offer before I decide to stick with this one
They didn’t, I had to have a special bridge made that included a piece of ‘gum’ that covered the hole. It’s partially closed in the last 18 months, but it’s still there.
**** man. I feel for ya. I've had a mare with this issue and it sounds mild in comparison to yours. I didn't even realise it was a thing until water started pissing out of my nose when I was rinsing my gums. Biggest issue for me is no water sports, coz I can't put any pressure on the sinus. I just want to get this op sorted now and start the recovery process so that I can get back to doing what I love. Appreciate that it's small fry compared to what some folk are going through though.
Have they mentioned a graft like? It was never discussed with me, so I’m intrigued if it is a viable option.
One of the dentists I saw told me about it, I then went away and googled it. One option is cutting a piece of fat out of your cheek and grafting it in there. Another is cutting a flap of skin from either the cheek or the roof of the mouth and covering the hole. Sometimes they use a combo of both. I've only read about the other procedures, bone graft or using a piece of synthetic material to cover the hole. I'll have to wait until I get my appt at the Maxillofacial unit and speak with a surgeon about how they're gonna approach my case.
Good luck with it, I hope they get you sorted, as it is a pain in the arse, but you do get used to it like
Cheers fella I just want to be able to get back to surfing and swimming really without the dodgy plumbing lol.
I've been back and forth to the dentist like a mofo the last few weeks. Today was my 6th appt. Had two separate lots of stitches, all sorts of needles and prodding. Grim when it's all happening in your gob. Makes me laugh when the dentist asks you if you're okay, when he's got a pair of calipers a needle and a hoover in your mouth lol
