When I was a boy I believed in Father Christmas and tooth fairies, life was simple with no real worries and I expected Sunderland to win every game.

Now I look like Father Christmas, my few remaining teeth need a fairy to save them but I still expect Sunderland to win most games, this weekend being one of them.

Like many I have been bemused by team selection and being of that simple generation 4-4-2 always seemed the obvious formation, continental was for holidays and diamonds for engagement rings.

Its taken a few weeks and a run of less than satisfactory results but maybe, yes still just maybe, this weekend we may see not only an old fashioned 4-4-2 formation but the two striker roles taken by strikers. If we add in the possibility of two wingers playing on their proper wings the excitement mounts.

Now if we start with all of this and get thumped I have asked all mods to rush round everyones homes and empty all bathroom cabinets of medication and disconnect gas pipes.

If we start 4-4-2 and draw it will be OK but maybe not enough.

If we start 4-4-2 and win we can only hope and pray, Jersey stay on stand by, that we do the unthinkable and stick with the same team and formation for next week.

Mind when I was a boy I was unaware of how life could let you down so often, being a grown up can be a bitch.

I agree Syd, it's a must win game for me. I think we need to be winning 5 out of the next 7 games or so.

If we get beat on Saturday, there will be a horrible atmosphere around the SOL for the Villa game.

But if we play 442 with 2 proper strikers, sessegnon on the left and no elmo, which is what we have all wanted since day one and then win well, does this really save Bruce? He has banged on all season about how this is the best system and that we are all stupid ****s for thinking otherwise. Twice he has gone into games with NO strikers and yet we know nowt.

In my eyes, it would only serve to reaffirm my belief he is totally clueless. We have thrown all or any goodwill there was back in August completely out of the window now. Had he gone out and attacked from the start and had the same results, at least he would have kept our support for trying. I honestly think if wickham or Ji had played more, results against the mags, Norwich and swansea would have been different.

Bruce is a done deal for me. Every day he is here now is a miserable one for me, regardless of the next 2 results. He has ****ed up this season and caused fans to fight among each other and that's unforgiveable. He has had a right old pop at the fans for being unhappy with 4th bottom and for that, I'd run the fat twat out of town personally.

Bruce out more than ever now imo.

You are a great story teller Syd. Have you ever thought of writing to the BBC and trying to revive Jackanory ?

If the more attacking line up works, and Bruce can realise that he has learnt from his mistakes, then for me that will be fine...

Do you know what worries me?

I he does what we've all been asking for & still get beat not only will it be totally our fault but he will never play that way again.

I'd agree however... Bruce has been a manager for 13 years... How long will it take to learn from his mistakes? Is Bruce to set in his ways? Afterall he was a defender by trade...

I actually said a prayer the night before the stoke game! Even though footballs just a game, it means so much to do many people. I will say a prayer that we will win tomorrow, not for the game but for the people who travel down tomorrow, for the people following at home and for the happiness of these people, that something good will come out of the match tomorrow.
