I'm sure if you say to an Italian they get their coffee at Costa they would punch you in the face A mate of mine who was bet £10 to ask Paolo Di Canio if he prefers Pizza Hut or Dominos knows this...
When we've won 1 League Cup in 20 years and when Berbatov, Carrick, Modric, Bale and Walker have left to win multiple trophies; and our (net) transfer spend is in touching distance of Villa, Brighton, West Ham, Wolves and less than Everton, there's a point to be made. Yes, we've built a stadium and a training ground...but we've employed 4 coaches to manage the team to the end of this season. That's how bad it's got. The true hacks don't care about 5 days time, let alone 5 years. However, when Alasdair Gold is imploring the club to realize that it's also about 'the now', it's a sign that things are significantly off track. There has to be balance and there hasn't been enough. **** the hacks, the club's fans have had enough of chess...we want some football.
How many trophies have the likes of Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri, van Persie, Adebayor et al won after leaving Arsenal? And why have none of the ex-Arsenal pundits ever brought this little detail up at any point in the last ten years?
this is such a good point, Lock Stock. in many ways (as good as potter is) he’s potentially another Poch. - would the players have thought “been there , done that”?. Whereas with Conte, he’s the “present” mourinho, whose success wasn’t years ago. He’s winning things right now and in his prime.
With none of those players It's also worth pointing out that Cesc Fabregas won as many trophies in one season at Barca (Club World Cup, European Super Cup, Supercopa de Espana) as Arsenal have won in a decade, thus proving that he needed to leave in order to win trophies
The group of top clubs has been getting more closed, but there's still a decent-ish chance for a Spurs sized club if they bunch their top players in a narrow age range--though the best case scenario doing that is a chance of big trophies in one year out of four or so. Not to defend my point in a tiresome way...okay, well, to defend my point in a tiresome way, the model I mentioned is a way of making money and becoming bigger and better able to compete. The quick fix model wastes money and therefore has to hurt the club.
When the club wins some trophies, articles about winning no trophies will stop. It's how these things work.
No they don't, look at how many think pieces there are about Poch not winning trophies in spite winning the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions last season, the latter in his first game in charge of PSG If there's a set of goalposts the pundits are always going to move them, just like how winning the Season Killer Cup doesn't count as it's a "Mickey Mouse cup" according to all the Goons inundating forums and phone-ins the last couple of times we've won the sodding thing, and if we do win the ECL this season I can guarantee we'll be hearing the exact same metallic screech as the goalposts are getting moved for that eventuality too
Very true. Man City can win (and have) every domestic trophy going but some people will call Pep a failure because they haven’t won the champions league yet.
