The thing is, that whilst United is not exactly short of a few bob, neither does it have unlimited funds to be able to buy glory at any cost, unlike Man £ity. If Fu Mancini wants to emulate SAF, and earn the respect that SAF has acquired throughout his career, he had better manage a team that does not rely on the Arab's billions to buy its glory.
He wants to be an obnoxious, sore losing arse that makes up reasons to fall out with players? Sounds like he's already there...
To be fair, ManUSA have been the financially dominant club in the Prem for years. Before City's oil money, it continually made record signings. To say they haven't bought success, at least to some degree, would be inaccurate. Of course LDL and the rest will deny it, but the fact that the money making machine that is Manyoo owed countless millions of pounds gives us an idea of what they spend on players and wages. No one can deny old bacon face's success or experience, but to hold him up as a paragon of self made corinthian virtue is a little rich.
he means tapping up players, hijacking them on there way somewhere else, moaning about refs, having is own timeand being a sir with no class
Phil Jones: £16.5m Ashley Young: £17m David De Gea: £18.9m Hardly the sort of fees most clubs can outbid. Juan Sebastien Veron - who they were happy to sell at a loss of £18m, which is something else not many clubs would dare consider thinking of, let alone doing. And let's not forget the minor issue of him being a bully when players dare defy him. Being assaulted in the dressing room is a superb way of instilling team spirit...
Mancini wants to be like SAF ----------------------------------- Attach rashers to both facial cheeks and drink copious quantities of red wine. This ensures any skin left showing will blend in nicely to the rasher once redness takes effect. This should produce a more than satisfactory result.
City aside Luke, tell me one transfer target that an English club has beaten ManUSA to by outbiding them. I am at a loss to think of any. The big secret that Ferguson has is that he hires very compliant, very competent assistant managers, ( the ones that really do the work.) He is a figurehead and he leaves the players in no doubt of what is required. They stay loyal and committed because they are well paid and for the most part rotated in and out of the squad. Also failure to do so means a P45 and a career abroad. I don't really buy him as a tactical genius either. Mancini has an embarassment of riches. Who wouldn't want to stay in the Citeh hotseat for the next 25 years?
If Mankini wants to be like Ferguson then he will have to become a bad loser, reel off a catalogue of excuses in defeat and agree with his own players being sent off (only when they win), as well as looking like half a dozen rashers of bacon.
Say what you like about Fergie, but he has a great eye for potential talent, and how to field balanced teams. Mancini has yet to demonstrate that kind of ability, to me. Ok. SAF isn't always right - he's made expensive mistakes, i.e. Veron. However, he gets it right more often, than not. Also, if he does make mistakes, he seems to learn from them. As has already been said, Mancini has a long, long, way to go.
Can financially outbid his rivals for any player he wants Unsettles other clubs' players with improved wages Taps up youngsters from other teams' academies Makes up reasons to fall out with players Talks bollocks in press conferences Apart from cvommitting assault at half time in an FA Cup match, using the Murdoch empire to unsettle other teams' players and having a tiff with the BBC, Mancini's doing a bang-up job of emulating Ferguson...
I have never rated Ferguson as a tactician, but he is a great Manager. His ability to put the right person in the right job (including the non playing staff) is IMO the secret of his success. I always thought his use of Ole Gunnar Solskjær was brilliant, a player that would walk into most teams of the day, used as a substitute by SAF and kept happy with the role. Berbatov does not seem quite so keen to fill that role but he is still at Man U. I have seen little evidence that Mancini has these abilitys in fact the opposite seems to be the case.
The thing is this. If Fu Mancini, with his ability to buy any player he wants or needs, cannot win the league and at least one cup every single season, then he should be counted a failure and sacked. Having said that, that's exactly what I think they'll be doing for the next few seasons.
