Like most I'm disappointed with the current form, even after 60 years of supporting the lads, but form is temporary, we have the class to rise again. The absolute last thing I want to see is some knee jerk reaction to change the set up or manager. We've been there too many times, now we need the continuity and continued build up that our new owner has started.
Agree with all of that mate. Rotherham are a side on a run and sheff wed arent. Good post. Lets hope the cups games, and the coaching windows they might provide, give a chance to reset.
I hate to say it because ive met him and he's a nice lad, but its about time Gooch moved on now. He just hasnt improved from the level he was about 3 or 4 years ago, and he's been part of the squad during many miserable times for too long now. The lads just a bang average League 1 player and we need better
I thought he had so much to offer. Thought he’d comfortably be good enough in the prem and, for the most part, he was. He seems to have declined the way SAFC have. Has the occasional great game in him but they’re far too fleeting now. I always said he’s good due to his work rate and helping the defence. Yet last night that was non-existent. Without that, I literally think he brings nothing to the table atm. I’ve met him too. He loves the club and the area. Lovely fella and talks like a fan playing for “his” club with his “mackemerican” accent! But I’m inclined to agree with you
I remember watching him play the 2nd half against Hartlepool in a friendly about 6 years ago. He looked like an absolute gem. Its a shame he hasnt developed as we expected.
On their day a lower league player can have the same ability and potential as a player in a much higher league like we've seen with Gooch on the odd occasion. The thing that seperates the 2 though is being able to play at a high level consistently and players like Gooch, Jordan Jones and Maguire for example cannot do that which is why they end up moving around the lower leagues all of their career.
Just got in from work and the feeling amongst the majority at work surprised me, they mostly all want the manager sacked. A lot of idiots in amongst them but some level headed supporters have now had enough. Same thing kept cropping up, another season in this league fills people with dread. There is a good 25 or 30 supporters at work today and the mood this morning was one of anger, disbelief at him picking the same defence as Saturday & O9, Gooch & Doyle still getting a game.
There’s a good 15 lads who are very level headed supporters and they have turned, the rest of them I take with a pinch of salt, never happy. 3 lads said more or less the same, we are an established 3rd division team now, it hit home for me. I always listen to everyone’s thoughts after a match and I can sometimes react in anger but this morning was really somber, getting beat of Rotherham 5-0 would have sent shockwaves through football circles at one time, nobody bats an eyelid now, even hardened fans. Sheff Wed 3-0 would be seen as almost acceptable in the premier league I suppose but last night it just seems to have become almost normal.
Sad but true, probably why it doesn't hurt so much. Had 3 pints after the Charlton game with the lads and we all put it down as a bad day at the office... When will it end? Hopefully results will go our way soon.
