We were absolutely ****e, lack of ideas, players looked out of sorts, no plan B. L09 taking set pieces hahahah that was a ****ing laugh. Doyle looked knackered tonight, which was a worry. AOB was also a player that was quiet tonight, as were a majority of them. Get your ****ing finger out LJ, give the lads a kick up the backside or ask yourself what the **** are you doing wrong, and are you the man to lead this club. P.S **** the motorways, ****ing big diversions
It's a mystery mate. Johnson was having praise heaped on him for coaching players into big improvements. Now the same players are making basic errors which makes me give some leeway to the manager. Even if he sent them out without any game plan that team should be capable of a better performance than that in front of 4,000 people supporting and encouraging them. We didn't get into the top two by accident, it's because we're good enough. I really don't want more mid-season disruption, I'd rather see everyone pull together and get a grip ... ... the next three weeks are a period of relative calm where we can hopefully do that. Congratulations to Sheff Wed for winning a game but, in all honesty, they shouldn't get carried away after that result, they're not very good.
There is too much faith on here and not enough science, based on evidence, I stopped trusting LJ (when he pulled Olly Younger off and left McFuz on , he did the same thing last regarding Neil/ Gooch). I keep hoping I am wrong, for the sake of KLD, but imo the only thing that needs addressing is LJ and his flawed judgement.
Winchester has been a revelation, until the last couple of games, and we have few, if any, alternatives, O/9, Gooch, maybe, or a back three, which is the only realist alternative with the current squad. The worry for me is the team RTB has posted above for the next game would probably beat the one LJ turned out yesterday , as would the one that played in the last cup game, thats the real problem.
I'm calmer today but still think a change is needed unless Johnson can tuck his ego away and learn some pragmatism - teams know how to hurt us now and unless he changes his philosophy and makes us more physical, we are going to get bullied off the park every game He's got 3 weeks to change things, fail to beat Ipswich and he should be gone IMHO
Yeah good result, but a mid table team who have only won 6 of their 16 games (albeit 3 have come from the last 4 games) and not a team we should fear. They will be watching videos of the Sheff/Rotherham games and working out how to get to us. Does Johnson have it in his armoury to changes things? Will his ego allow it?
Time will tell I guess. IF (and it's a massive if) we can get back to playing to sort of football we saw at the start of the season, getting the likes of Neil threading balls through to Stewart, Embleton finding pockets and creating chances, whilst Flanagan/Doyle are solid at the back then we have a chance. If we start slowly (as seems to be the way in the last 6 games) then we are in trouble
I am not sure what I think about yet another year in the turd division... after recent displays... Either getting roughed up and losing Or Mickey mouse defending like last night.. does not augur well for automatic promotion. I will always support Sunderland but my enthusiasm is eroding. One point, hopefully not forlorn, is that it was always unlikely we would play well for the hole season, I would rather mess up in the first 15 rather than the last 15. Provided we stay in touch and have a good January transfer window we have a chance.
Of all the issues at the minute, the defending alarms me the most. We seem incapable of stopping crosses into the box and when they DO come in there is zero physical presence to deal with the threat. Some of the goals on Sat and last night were embarrasing
O'Nien and Evans our two best players statistically from last night, with Cirkin in third. Some people won't like reading that but that's their problem. https://www.whoscored.com/Matches/1...-One-2021-2022-Sheffield-Wednesday-Sunderland
Cheers mate and likewise. Maybe I am blinded because I like his style of play, or I did, but the recent performances are a worry. I lost a bit of faith last night when there was no Embo or even Dajaku. They needed to be attacked because they are in poor form, but so are we and I thought he went safe not brave. If he goes fine I will get behind someone else. I cant honestly think who I would want though, Appleton maybe. Perhaps someone from overseas we dont know. I want a manager who plays football though. If they are to do it then do it now whilst we have some cup games to work on things and a new man to get to know the players.
It's like LJ got the team selections the wrong way round for Rotherham and Shef Wed. Attacked when we needed to be solid, then vice versa last night. About the streakiness, is it to do with how important confidence is to LJ's teams? We looked great a few weeks ago. Now a few players are out of sorts, it's difficult to fix as you can't suddenly make the players confident again. Does he make wholesale changes to get us going again? Can he do that without causing strife in the squad? Edit - the clever bits of interplay are glaring in their absence. It's like the players don't trust themselves or each other to do it at the minute. I can't believe the coaches have said to stop the interplays.
I think it was inevitable that he would be more defensive after Saturday and his team last night was what I expected. As @Robertson says, its almost like he got his selections the wrong way round for these two games. Clearly there's a problem defending the wide areas and he's got to sort that out quickly but I think he has to be given the backing to get that right.
Absolutely. I was a massive advocate for him playing last night. Thought his work defensively far outweighed his decision making in attack. But he was awful. O’Brien was too and I advocated him playing!! mind dajaku wouldn’t have stopped much. Offers more going forward though. All in all, I’m far more disappointed with Saturday than last night. Saturday we were awful all over. Last night we played some nice stuff but in our defensive third we were utter garbage. In the attacking third they looked decent. But had we drawn that game, Sheff Weds couldn’t have complained. We created more chances than them but could still be playing now without scoring seemingly
I am in some pain after last night's result on top of too many others. Look at the stats and SW scored 3 with only 3 on target, Portsmouth much the same, Charlton and even Burton the same story. Rotherham not much different. The opposition gets one on target they score. It's not the keeper, the defence clearly leaves the attackers in a comfort zone to find the goal almost every time. I watched the Bolton match live we won, but really we should have lost or drawn at best. We have major problems.
Yeah, good points. There is a definite lack of confidence right now - the most worrying thing is how quickly it appears to have evaporated. I wasn't at the Charlton game, but sounds like as badly as we played we still should have got something from the game (poor refereeing) but then that has quickly descended into utter garbage against Rotherham and Sheff. I agree that we should have been more defensive on Sat, but after that hammering you can't really blame him for setting up with a bit more caution last night. Ipswich game is massive now
