Our results were the reason Johnson was sacked after 4plus years with signings to numerous to mention. Pearson has signed 6 or so trying to repair the direction we were obviously heading. He's rid City of 12 players from a bloated squad, he would have rid us of a few more but for their contract situation. I think it fair to give him time to sort our squad out.
I agree with your last sentence whole heartedly...... Yes, there were some poor signings, which 1. we still don't know his involvement ....2. to a point, many managers from all levels, being in a job for that long would make mistakes,,,,,,,but can't remember many times thinking we might get sucked into a relegation battle plus it was not the reason he was sacked. The reason for his departure, was to progress further.........and as yet, I haven't seen it..........you would think, even with the players at his disposal, NP, the so say, much better manager, would have done, so much better than that dreadful manager we had before DH....
he has failed so far, as long as he keeps us in the middle 8 teams this season could be written off as successful. There is so many little glimmers around each game that should they all come together then wham
I think LJ had a good go but ultimately didn’t achieve the goal set him & the squad he assembled had reached as far as they were able, we’d have struggled to keep them all without COVID due to wages and COVID made it impossible, DH was just a mistake, when Nige arrived he was set the task of bringing wages down, and reassemble in time a squad capable of challenging for promotion. He’s a proven manager so the hope is he’d have more chance of achieving this than an up and coming manager.,SL was also under pressure from the fans to go down this route after LJ who was considered by the fans as not experienced enough and possibly a cheap option.
A good assessment. The previous regimes you mention have had their day, and lost their jobs through not making the grade set by SL. We don't know yet what grade SL has set for NP, so he needs at least 2 or 3 more windows to be judged effectively. Unless of course, we go down, then he has to be judged to have failed and would lose his job, surely?
I agree, time was up regarding LJ. My problem at the time, was we didn't have anyone better or proven to replace him....Neither was there one scouted, in the waiting to come in. From then through to now, it hasn't really improved on the pitch. But I believe (more hoping) that the infrastructure i.e. scouting, recruitment & medical surrounding the squad has been improved.....IMO.. NP just needs to decide his best 11 and get his tactics right.......and I agree he needs more time......so long as performances and results start to improve..
I see it as he’s been set different goals, this season he’s to keep us up, preferably mid to lower table, then much like LJ a season by season improvement until season three be pressing for top 6, unlike LJ he won’t have the level of funding, and Parachute payment teams will have a bigger advantage than before so his task is much harder than LJ’s. failure will be judged against each target imo
Again, arrogance and assumption from you that I don't watch games.... I would counter that by saying, according to your flawed logic, that RP and Wiz should not be commenting on the performances under LJ, as both openly stated on here many times that they didn't and wouldn't go when he was in charge. I have said many times, I think LJ did a good job others on here don't see it that way. Similarly, I don't see we are further on just because LJ is no longer the manager, and others would take anything as long he was gone. Well, enjoy it, because I'm not with what NP has served up so far in his tenure.
I would concur, on our forum we have peeps who state "due to results" ..peeps who take "an umbrage to individuals because of their links" peeps who dont like" continuity" peeps who dont like " inexperienced" .... what or how a manager should be ... the wider picture in all clubs embrace these aspects. Problem or a conflict of issues is when one becomes linear in thought. I personally THOUGHT SC, LJ , DH did fantastically well but like most things in life ran out of momentum/ thought/ideas/ tried to rush things/ etc ..... I was also hoping S&D took over from DH [ they had form on their side, and were on the touchline calling the main tune for 2 games! ] However SL, or Ashton or ?? decided to make a change, SL has since questioned himself over this course of action! NP' s first 2 real games in charge was losses ... followed by a win and draw and then with numerous changes to formations then players [ partly expected as needed to suss out the squad ] was a disaster ............... Many have said championship is a topsy turvey world... and it is.. unless you are switched on to a successful strategy ... looking at the table it seems "so called" smaller teams are doing it right have a plan go out execute it and haul in regular points .. Coventry, Huddersfield & Bpool 4th 5th 6th! ....... NP PHILOSOPHY = show me you can do it and you are in ... if not try harder ... have a bad moment and you are needing to prove YOU can do it over again! ..I question this.. can be destructive mentally, and enforce errors due to mind trying to make sure you are not going to err...
