Nothing disengenious about it - That why Ljungberg and Houston were included in the Arsenal managers. (both caretakers for a short time) I feel like Nuno was having the same issue Arteta has been at Arsenal. He wants to build a better defensive base so he needs attacking players to learn hown defend and press but he knows the fans want attacking football & the squad is better suited to an attacking style. The work takes time.
I don’t think that’s quite the case. We’d have been fine with a return to Poch-style pressing. Nuno’s issue is that he doesn’t coach a high press and just had no idea what to do with a squad that is horrendously unbalanced in key areas.
I'm not against the idea of playing Lucas CAM, he's good on the ball has some creativity and if Kane drops deep he has the pace to get in behind. Not ideal but could be an option.
If he did then it was completely unidentifiable. We were not doing well with 433 but you could see hints of what he was trying. We had some better results in 4231 but it wasn’t clear what he was trying to do in or out of possession. Results didn’t always go Poch’s way in the beginning but you could see what he was trying to implement. Nuno’s Spurs showed no such signs. I think this was tried a couple times last season and it’s not an awful idea. He works hard and beats his men well. I worry about his end product a bit though, he has all the talent but is a bit of an Adama Traore in that sense.
It was either/or, with Martinez only really getting regular starts after Sanchez missed the whole of December through injury, although he still started a fair share games in the backend of last season while Martinez was being rested Lucas started his career as an AM so it wouldn't be alien to play him out there Just not as a CM, as he started doing in our most recent matches...
So quick check: is the reason for Sunderland's decline Bob Murray (not that one) and his vanity football stadium?
Cost £40m.(quite a bargain even 25 years ago, Murray was in charge of a number of stadium builds,).. how much did yours cost how much has been spent on new players wage bill compared with those around you? Just asking out of interest. How is it working out levy going back on hisvword with Kane?
Alternatively he returns Ndombele and Lo Celso to being the players they were before they were ruined by the last two managers and spends the money in other areas. He will have two months when he can’t buy anyone so he will have to use the current squad.
Ideally that would happen but these players (not just Ndombele and GLC) have let down multiple managers so I have my doubts that they can become the players we thought they would be when they were signed in 2019
Most of that's Wenger, though. Remove his time period and I doubt there's much in it. It took Arsenal a long time to get rid of their most successful manager. That's hardly a surprise, is it? The same would apply to Man Utd with Ferguson. Suddenly not so stable now he's gone. Also remove caretakers and it's a much shorter list for us. Takes out about a third of them. You could point to someone like Dyche at Burnley, who's outlasted 13 Watford managers. His last club? Watford!
Since they arrived, we've been dreadful for the most part and they've been no different. Is it cause or effect? If we appoint Conte, we'll find out pretty quickly. Unlike late period Poch, Mourinho and Nuno, Conte will have a strategy for the entire team and stick a rocket up them to boot. If he can't get a tune out of them, they're properly broken. Supposedly, he was interested in signing Ndombele when we were courting Skriniar. That offers some hope...which has been missing for some time.
There’s reports saying that Levy was initially reluctant to invest heavily which is why Conte never joined in the summer but he’s now been promised €100m in January. Romagnoli, de Vrij and de Ligt have been listed as CB targets. Brozovic as a CM target. Chiesa for a forward target. Vlahovic as a striker target. I can’t see de Ligt or Chiesa joining Tottenham. Both would cost a bomb. But de Vrij and Brozovic from cash strapped Inter and Vlahovic after refusing his new contract could all be possible I guess. That’s IF the €100m (plus any sales) is true.
ENIC have always got 'emergency funds' to get them out of a tight spot. There's absolutely no chance of getting Levy to pony it up until things look bad for him. But once they do...
Both out of contract in the summer. Expect Kessie, Dybala, Insigne, Belotti, Boga and anyone else from Serie A with a short contract soon.
Team they picked: Lloris; Royal, Tanganga, Romero, Dier, Reguilon; Ndombele, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso; Kane, Son. That would leave us with senior backup (assuming everyone's fit) of: Gollini; Doherty, Sanchez, Rodon, Davies, Sessegnon; Winks, Skipp; Moura, Alli, Bergwijn/Gil.
Yeah I think that’s pretty much what I’d go for other than taking out one of the big money flops for Skipp at present. I said earlier that I think the wingers/ wide forwards could be in trouble if Conte does go with 352. I’d be especially sweating if I were Bergwijn, he seems the less flexible of the current wide men to be able to change position.
