Just straying of the beaten track here ever so slightly . Wondered what you guys thoughts are on the quality of refs in general these days . i,m sure its not just us , i reckon half the championship teams sing we only get **** refs every sat . It pisses me off that one minute he can give a penalty for a dive etc then 2 mins later give nothing for what amounts to GBH . I understand that its not an eay job but there seems to be no standard among refs . Is it poor training , do they not really want to be there , i just dont know . thoughts
Bloody hell Dundee you nearly gave me a bloomin Heart Attack! For a horrible moment there I thought that you were going to say that we had got ANDY W'URSO!
Funny how we think exactly the same thing. The thing is we've had shocking decisions go against us, but refs are human, and I accept they're going to make mistakes. If you ask me, it's a problem with the players who make the fouls and aren't honest and not the referee not spotting them. Now I know you'll say that players do this because the game is so competitive but cricket is competitive and players in there are much more honest generally.
Watford fan in peace. You think you get **** refs, WFC went 2 years with out being given a penalty at home yet others could be given them. But in general the standard of officials this season so far has been poor!! Good luck for the season.
So far this season Peterboro shocking along with both linesmen, Cardiff absolute Numpty, Portsmouth thinks football is a non contact sport!
i would say your complete lack of atmosphere goes a long way to the lack of decisions going your way. at fratton and many other grounds you have rowdy fans calling for everything, right decision or not. quite often refs and linesman buckle to the pressure. i came to Portman road on tuesday for the first time and can honestly say I've never seen anywhere with an atmosphere as bad. its like a load of cardboard cut outs on chairs, hardly seems worth going along!
Yeah what with a roof, proper seats, catering et al I bet it hardly seems worth going. Fair play you're noisy at home but your ground is unsuitable for cattle, let alone a football match. 1v0 may have been more of a reflection of your experience. Good luck with your relegation battle
if we are in a relegation battle we will se you down there come the end of the year. played of the park for the majority of the game by a team with a tiny squad and no manager hardly looks good does it? how we do this year all depends on who comes in as gaffer, as we proved tuesday night the players are a match for any just need a decent head as far as tactics and substitutions are concerned and a bit of luck with injuries and suspensions. as for fratton not being noisy, in comparison to your place its like a bomb going off. i have traveled quite well and visited a fair few grounds and that was by far the worst place i have been atmosphere wise and being as you have a proper ground with a "roof" theres not really any excuse for it. (I'm guessing blue monkey still thinks our away end is open?) it was merely an observation about the lack of noise having a bearing on the refs decision making or lack of. an ipswich fan before the game said that cardiff also had a lot of luck with decisions due to the noise and claiming for everything.
Pompey - You're forgetting old son that we WON on Tuesday night despite playing poorly! It hardly says a lot about your lot either does it!
not at this time, but what we saw was encouraging. the players seemed a lot more lively and were attacking more freely then we ever did under cotterill. you may have won against the play tuesday but you won't get away with that sort of performance week in week out. our squad was down to 9 players again at the start of the season and we have just "lost" (thank ****) our manager so there has been a lot of unsettlement in and around the club. i feel that our current league position will be a long way off of where we finish. we now have stable long term financial backing for the first time in years and a small but experienced squad. my guess would be just outside the play offs say top 10. if we achieve that then we would have done very well for a club in its second season after financial melt down. good luck for the rest of the season (fratton aside!!) have always liked your lot as a footballing side, even if the fans do think they are at a funeral
"for a club in its second season after financial melt down" - then how the **** are you paying Norris more than what we offered him? ps You don't get any points for making noise, feeling hard done by, cheating financially or being ugly otherwise you'd be in the autos....
from what I've heard in his interviews it was a longer contract that offered better future stability for his family and not more money. we are governed by our cva agreement and have a wage cap in place so it can't of been much we were offering him. i believe it has to average somewhere around the 10k per player mark across the squad. as for being ugly thats actually quite amusing after spending an afternoon in ipswich looking on in envy at the years of inbreeding you guys seem to have perfected so well!!!
I accept we are not the noisyest and after a few years of very poor football at PR it will take a while for both the fans and then the atmosphere to get back to a decent level. Tbh even when we have been doing well we have never been the loudest fans but if do you seriously think you outplayed us on Tuesday night?. We were poor compared to our previous 3 or 4 matches but you didnt impress either.I can see why you wanted Dorris so much as your display on Tuesday night seemed to some up his style of play perfectly - all energy no substance. Got nothing against Pompey and actually feel sorry for the way you have been shafted at your club over the last few years. Hopefully a new manager can give you some direction and a bit more cutting edge. I think you deserve some success after all the heartache. good luck with your season
Great! Another card happy ref by the looks of things! This taken from TWTD: Saturday’s referee is David Phillips from West Sussex, who has shown 26 yellow cards and two red in nine games so far this season. Phillips’s only previous Town match was the 3-0 victory over Sheffield United in February in which he sent off Blades Rob Kozluk and Lee Williamson in the final moments having already booked the latter, in addition to two of his team-mates but no Town players.
Surely if a ref has a record like that his decisions should be reviewed by the FA. Either he has been involved in some dodgy matches or he should be given words of advice of what is and what isnt a card
29 Cards shown in just 9 games! He was obviously bullied at school! He needs some serious people management skills. I am a ref and I have only shown 3 cards in 10 games so far this season!
